Metabolism of benzoic acid by sheep
Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, 1966AbstractExperiments have been made with two sheep to determine their ability to synthesise hippuric acid. The titratable acidity of diethyl ether extracts of acidified urine was expressed as g benzoic acid equivalent. One sheep on a dried grass ration and one on a hay and oats ration excreted in the urine 8·06 and 4·07 g benzoic acid equivalent/24 h ...

Sorbic Acid, Benzoic Acid, and Dimethyldicarbonate
1995Sorbic acid is a short-chained unsaturated fatty acid widely used in the wine and food industry as a chemical preservative. Because sorbic acid is not readily soluble, it is usually sold as the soluble salt, potassium sorbate. Effective primarily as a fungistat, sorbic acid is added to sweet wines.

Sodium Benzoate and Benzoic Acid
2005Benzoic acid is found naturally in a wide variety of plants. It was isolated in the sixteenth century, but not commercially produced until the end of the nineteenth century. Researchers discovered in 1875 that this compound had potent antifungal properties, was relatively tasteless in foods, easy to make, and inexpensive.
