Comparison of developmental toxicity of benzophenone-3 and its metabolite benzophenone-8 in zebrafish

Aquatic Toxicology, 2023
Benzophenone-3 (BP-3) as one of frequently used organic UV filters has been considered an emerging pollutant due to its toxicities. Benzophenone-8 (BP-8) is one of the main metabolites of BP-3 in organisms. Current reports show that BP-8 may be more toxic than BP-3.

Benzophenones

Dermatitis®, 2014
Benzophenones are ultraviolet light filters that have been documented to cause a myriad of adverse cutaneous reactions, including contact and photocontact dermatitis, contact and photocontact urticaria, and anaphylaxis. In recent years, they have become particularly well known for their ability to induce allergy and photoallergy. Topical sunscreens and

Benzophenone Photophores in Biochemistry

Biochemistry, 1994
The photoactivatable aryl ketone derivatives have been rediscovered as biochemical probes in the last 5 years. The expanding use of benzophenone (BP) photoprobes can be attributed to three distinct chemical and biochemical advantages. First, BPs are chemically more stable than diazo esters, aryl azides, and diazirines. Second, BPs can be manipulated in

Safety evaluation of benzophenone

Food and Chemical Toxicology, 1991
Benzophenone (FEMA No. 2134; CAS No. 119-61-9) was administered in the diet to rats at target dose levels of 20 mg/kg body weight/day for 90 days and 100 or 500 mg/kg/day for 28 days. Body weights and food consumption were measured weekly; haematology, clinical chemistry and urinalysis values were obtained at 4 wk and at the end of the study. Gross and

Photoallergy to benzophenone.

Archives of dermatology, 1989
Incorrect diagnosis of photoallergy to sunscreen products represents a unique clinical dilemma. Increasing sunscreen usage for suspected idiopathic photosensitivity or a change to a sunscreen containing the same photoallergen only worsens the problem. While photoallergy to p-aminobenzoic acid and its esters is well known by dermatologists and the lay ...

Prevalent polymorphism in benzophenones

Acta Crystallographica Section C Structural Chemistry, 2018
We report here the crystal structures of dimorphs of 4-hydroxybenzophenone, C13H10O2, and 4-(dimethylamino)benzophenone, C15H15NO, as well as trimorphs of 4,4′-dimethylbenzophenone, C15H14O. The polymorphs were isolated from slow-evaporation conditions or from cocrystallization attempts.

Conformations of substituted benzophenones

Acta Crystallographica Section B Structural Science, 2008
The inclination of the two aryl rings (ring twists) in a series of benzophenone molecules has been examined. For each structure the dihedral angle (between the planes of the two sets of six aromatic C atoms) relates to both the steric considerations of the single molecule and the packing forces related to the crystal structure.

Photodegradation of benzophenones sensitized by nitrite

Science of The Total Environment, 2022
Benzophenone UV filters (BPs) are a group of contaminants of emerging concern due to their widespread occurrence and adverse effects on aquatic ecosystems. In this study, the transformation of BPs by nitrite sensitized photodegradation was comprehensively investigated.

Hypervalent benzophenones

Journal of Organometallic Chemistry, 2018
Benzophenones (BPs) of the type 2-R-BP and 2,2'-R-BP, carrying silicon-or germanium-containing substituents R (R = EY2X; E = Si, Ge; Y = H, Me, F, Cl; X = H, F, Cl, OTf) at one or at two ortho-positions of the arene rings, were theoretically designed.
