Bacterial Transformations of Benzothiophene and Methylbenzothiophenes

Environmental Science & Technology, 1994
The abilities of three Pseudomonas strains transform each of the six isomers of methylbenzothiophene was studied. These compounds would not support growth but were biotransformed in a cell suspension of one of the violates and in cultures of the other two isolates while they grew on 1-methylnaphthalene or glucose.

A convenient synthesis of benzothiophene derivatives

Tetrahedron, 2002
(Methylthio)- and 2-bromo-1-(methylthio)benzene are useful synthons to prepare monometallated and bimetallated intermediates which lead to 1-benzothiophenes functionalized in the three and/or two positions.

Asymmetric Hydrogenation of Thiophenes and Benzothiophenes

Journal of the American Chemical Society, 2012
An efficient and highly asymmetric ruthenium-N-heterocyclic carbene-catalyzed hydrogenation of substituted thiophenes and benzothiophenes is described, providing a new strategy for the formation of valuable enantiomerically pure tetrahydrothiophenes and 2,3-dihydrobenzothiophenes.

The antitumour activity of a series of benzothiophenes

Biochemical Pharmacology, 1967
Abstract The monofunctional halogenoalkylamine and 5-HT antagonist 3-(N-)β-chloroethyl-N-ethyl aminomethyl) benzothiophene HCl, was tested against experimental tumours. It proved to have high antitumour activity but was also very toxic. Only one compound, 5-bromo-3-(N-β-chloroethyl-N-ethyl aminomethyl) benzothiophene HCl, of a series of analogues had

Liquid crystalline benzothiophenes. Part 3: 2,4- and 2,7-disubstituted benzothiophenes

Liquid Crystals, 2016
ABSTRACTFive series of compounds based on 2,4- and 2,7-disubstituted benzothiophenes have been prepared and studied with respect to their mesomorphic properties. The molecular structure was modified by prolonging the molecular arms (varying the alkyl chain length) and orientation of the ester linkages.

Photochemical oxidation of benzothiophene in seawater

Chinese Journal of Oceanology and Limnology, 2000
Kinetic investigation into the photochemical oxidation of benzothiophene in seawater showed that photo-oxidation rates of benzothiophene were influenced by the medium, pH, heavy metal ion, dissolved oxygen, and light intensity. The photo-oxidation of benzothiophene followed the first order reaction law, with the rate constants ranging from 1.21×10−5/s ...

Synthesis of benzothiophenes

Recueil des Travaux Chimiques des Pays-Bas, 1949
AbstractFour methylbenzothiophenes and two methylnaphthothiophenes were synthesized by cyclization of arylketosulphides (obtained by reaction of α‐halogen ketones on thiophenols) in the presence of zinc chloride or phosphorus pentoxide.U.V. absorption spectra of the benzo and naphthothiophenes and their dioxides were measured to be used for the ...

Liquid crystalline benzothiophene derivatives. Part 2: 2,5-disubstituted benzothiophenes

Liquid Crystals, 2011
In the continuation of our study on heterocyclic mesogens, the structural motif of a 2,5-disubstituted benzothiophene as the central unit was utilised to design novel liquid crystals. Despite the bent molecular structure, the formation of a standard calamitic phase was observed.

Ionic hydrogenation of benzothiophenes

Bulletin of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR Division of Chemical Science, 1974
1. A new method was proposed for the preparation in high yield of the 2- and 3-methylthiaindans from the corresponding benzothiophenes by the ionic hydrogenation reaction. 2. The 2- and 3-methylbenzothiophenes have approximately the same hydrogenation rate, while the hydrogenation rate of the unsubstituted benzothiophene is substantially
