Real‐World Implementation of Contingency Management and Benefits of a Controlled Environment “Head Start”

open access: yesBrain and Behavior, Volume 15, Issue 9, September 2025.
Contingency Management (CM) was implemented in a small community clinic with no additional funding, and Quality Improvement (QI) principles were used to improve efficiency and effectiveness. The initial implementation of 17 participants yielded a mean of 2.2 (SD 3.2) weeks of consecutive abstinence (CA).

Determination of cocaine and its major metabolite benzoylecgonine in rabbit hair by GC/MS

open access: yes, 2013
It is important to determine people who use drugs to prevent the use of them. In recent years, hair is routinely used on toxicological analysis as well as biological samples such as blood and urine.

Evaluation of Bladder Wash as an Alternative Specimen for Postmortem Toxicology: Comparison to Screening Results of Urine and Kidney Tissue

open access: yesDrug Testing and Analysis, Volume 17, Issue 9, Page 1640-1655, September 2025.
Urine specimens represent the gold standard for screening analyses in forensic toxicology but are not always available postmortem. The current study systematically evaluated bladder wash (BW) as an interesting, but largely unexplored specimen for screening, in comparison to urine and kidney tissue (KT).

Characterization of metabolites in urine samples from individuals with a lethal co-administration of cocaine and ethanol

open access: yesRevista CENIC Ciencias Químicas, 2016
In this paper, cocaine and eleven of its metabolites have been detected and identified in urine samples. The technique was based in a simple liquid-liquid extraction with detection by gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry (GC-MS).

Assessment of total uncertainty in cocaine and benzoylecgonine wastewater load measurements

open access: yes, 2011
To check the effectiveness of campaigns preventing drug abuse or indicating local effects of efforts against drug trafficking, it is beneficial to know consumed amounts of substances in a high spatial and temporal resolution.

Rapid detection of cocaine, benzoylecgonine and methylecgonine in fingerprints using surface mass spectrometry [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Latent fingerprints provide a potential route to the secure, high throughput and non-invasive detection of drugs of abuse. In this study we show for the first time that the excreted metabolites of drugs of abuse can be detected in fingerprints using ...

Workplace Drug Testing—Prevalence of Positive Test Results, Most Common Substances, and Importance of Medical Review

open access: yesDrug Testing and Analysis, Volume 17, Issue 9, Page 1694-1700, September 2025.
Among 23,900 urine and oral fluid drug tests from Swedish workplaces, 4.6% tested positive for controlled substances. Cannabis, amphetamine, cocaine and benzodiazepines were most common. Many samples containing opiates, amphetamine or benzodiazepines were MRO verified as being due to medical prescriptions, while cannabis or cocaine were almost entirely

Associations Between Self‐Reported Cocaine Use Patterns and Cocaine and Its Metabolites in Hair: Implications for Clinical and Forensic Practices

open access: yesDrug Testing and Analysis, Volume 17, Issue 8, Page 1186-1195, August 2025.
This study demonstrates that concentrations of cocaine and its main metabolites in hair reliably predict an individual's actual intensity of cocaine use and effectively differentiate between dependent and non‐dependent users. ABSTRACT In forensic toxicology, it has been debated if hair testing allows an estimation of the intensity of cocaine use—an ...

Production of monoclonal antibody against the principal metabolite of cocaine, Benzoylecgonine

open access: yes, 1992
Two clones of monconal antibodies(Co-1 and Co-2) against BSA-benzoylecgonine(BSA-BE)were produced. Both monoclonal antibodies showed high binding affinity to BSA-BE.

Optimisation of accelerated solvent extraction of cocaine and benzoylecgonine from coca leaves

open access: yes, 2001
Accelerated solvent extraction (ASE) was developed for the rapid extraction of cocaine and benzoylecgonine from coca leaves. Several parameters such as the nature of the extracting solvent, the pressure, temperature, extraction time, addition of alkaline
