A review of new developments in the Friedel–Crafts alkylation – From green chemistry to asymmetric catalysis

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2010
The development of efficient Friedel–Crafts alkylations of arenes and heteroarenes using only catalytic amounts of a Lewis acid has gained much attention over the last decade.

Unified Synthesis of Unconventional α‐Polyhalogenated Amines Through Hydroaminoalkylation

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, EarlyView.
A unified, redox‐neutral method that transforms alkenes and alkynes into α‐polyhalomethyl amines using stable hemiaminal reagents is reported. This approach enables access to CF3, CF2H, CF2Cl, and CFClH motifs, expanding halogenated amine space with broad substrate scope, functional group tolerance, and applicability to late‐stage modification of drug ...

Photogenerated Oxetanes as a Gateway to Uphill Cyclopropanation

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, EarlyView.
An atom‐economical route to densely functionalized cyclopropanes from furans and photochemically activated aldehydes is enabled by a unique oxetane‐to‐cyclopropane rearrangement. These cyclopropanes can be used to access complex bioactive scaffolds and serve as a platform for asymmetric cyclopropane synthesis.

Synthesis and Activity‐Based Protein Profiling Identifies Aldo‐Keto Reductase 1C3 as Target Protein of Myxoglucamides

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, EarlyView.
Myxoglucamide A—a novel glycolipopeptide isolated from myxobacteria—was synthesized, and activity‐based protein profiling identified aldo‐keto reductase 1C3 (AKR1C3) as its main target in human cells. Structure‐activity relationship studies, together with biophysical characterization and X‐ray crystallography, elucidated the structural basis of AKR1C3 ...

Bio-inspired manganese-catalyzed deaminative hydroxylation of benzyl amines to corresponding alcohols

open access: yesNature Communications
Direct conversion of amines to corresponding alcohols is challenging even under harsh reaction conditions. Inspired by enzymatic transamination, we present a transamination borrowing-hydrogen strategy that enables the direct and selective Mn-catalyzed ...
