BENZYLADENINE INCREASES BRANCHING OF HERBACEOUS PERENNIALS
Acta Horticulturae, 2011Many of the herbaceous perennials, especially the newer cultivars of Echinacea, are poorly branching, slow to fill out the pot, and produce few propagules. Configure (6-BA, Fine Americas, Inc.), a new product recently labeled for branching of floricultural crops, was evaluated on a variety of perennials over two seasons. Configure was applied once as a

9-Benzyladenines: Potent and Selective cAMP Phosphodiesterase Inhibitors
Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, 1997Adenine derivatives substituted in position 9 constitute an important class of pharmacologically active compounds for which different targets can be postulated. Because they resemble the structure of adenosine, they may compete with the neuromodulator at its specific pharmacological receptors,1 transport proteins, or metabolic enzymes.

METHYLPURINE INHIBITION AND BENZYLADENINE STIMULATION OF AXILLARY BUD GROWTH
American Journal of Botany, 1970Methylpurine effectively inhibits tobacco axillary buds at concentrations higher than 10−4 m and inhibits tissue cultures of tobacco at concentrations higher than 10−6 m. The cytokinin, 6‐benzylaminopurine, not only overcomes apical dominance, but also reverses the inhibition of axillary buds by 6‐methylpurine.

Meta‐topolin, an alternative to benzyladenine in tissue culture?
Physiologia Plantarum, 1996The metabolism and the in vitro effects of the cytokinin N6‐(3‐hydroxybenzyl)adenine (meta‐topolin, mT) were compared with those of N6‐benzyladenine (BA), N6‐benzyl‐9‐(2‐tetrahydropyranyl)adenine (BPA) and N6‐benzyladenine‐9‐riboside ([9R]BA) in micropropagated Spathiphyllum floribundum Schott cv. Petite.

Benzyladenine stimulates the development of mitochondria in watermelon cotyledons
Plant Science Letters, 1979Abstract The development of mitochondria was followed for 5 days in watermelon cotyledons excised from the seedling 24 h after soaking and cultured in the dark on filter paper saturated with water or with a 10−4 M benzyladenine (BA) solution.

Effects of benzyladenine on bud break of roses
Scientia Horticulturae, 1984Abstract The uppermost axillary buds of some cut-rose cultivars fail to grow following flower harvest, especially in the winter season. In Japan, of the 60 cultivars grown under cover for cut-rose production, cultivar ‘Blue Moon’ syn.Mainzer Fastnacht shows strong dormancy after harvest.

N 6 -Benzyladenine: Inhibitor of Respiratory Kinases
Science, 1964N 6 -benzyladenine, an active phytokinin, inhibits the respiration of many explants. The chemical also delays senescence and extends the postharvest life of many green or leafy vegetables. Evidence is presented that these phenomena may be linked to a competitive inhibition of the glycolytic kinases by N ...

On the presence of benzyladenine nucleotide in the RNA of tobacco cells
Plant Science Letters, 1977Abstract Tobacco cell suspensions were incubated for 16 h with N6-bzl-[2-3H]Ade. The cold perchloric acid-insoluble fraction of the cells was digested stepwise by nucleases and protease: from the solubilized material, a large amount of radioactive free N6-benzyladenine (bzl-Ade) was recovered.

The stability and metabolism of benzyladenine glucosides in soybean callus
Journal of Plant Physiology, 1992Summary Using cytokinin dependent soybean callus the 3-, 7- and 9-glucosides of BA were investigated with respect to biological activity and metabolic stability. [3G]BA was the most, and the [7G]BA the least active in the soybean callus bioassay. This order was also established with respect to the rates of metabolism, and is apparently the reason for
