A Hybrid Column Generation Approach for the Berth Allocation Problem [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The Berth Allocation Problem (BAP) consists on programming and allocating ships to berthing areas along a quay. The BAP is modeled as a vehicle routing problem and a recently proposed evolutionary hybrid method denominated PTA/LP is used to solve it.

Building centaur responders: is emergency management ready for artificial intelligence?

open access: yesDisasters, Volume 50, Issue 3, July 2026.
Abstract This article examines the preparedness of emergency management (EM) for addressing questions pertaining to artificial intelligence (AI), encompassing its benefits to EM missions, the potential biases, the societal impacts, and more. We pinpoint two key shortcomings in early EM research on AI: (i) insufficient discussion of both AI's history ...

Combinatorial Relaxation Bounds and Preprocessing for Berth Allocation Problems

open access: yesElectronic Notes in Discrete Mathematics, 2016
Abstract We investigate an optimization problem in container ports, for which previous models based on generalized set partitioning formulations have been studied. We describe two combinatorial relaxations based on computing maximum weighted matchings in suitable graphs, providing dual bounds and a variable reduction technique.

The Path to Future‐Proof Photovoltaics in Europe: Current Status and Impact of Technological Innovation on Reliable and Bankable Photovoltaics

open access: yesAdvanced Energy and Sustainability Research, Volume 7, Issue 6, June 2026.
This article provides an overview of the current state of the art and future improvements in PV technology and explains how changes in the technology and design of individual PV components—at the module level, the balance‐of‐system (BOS) level, or the PV plant level—can affect the reliability, durability, and energy output of a PV system.

Exploring Goal Flexibility and Mental Health in University Students: A Qualitative Approach

open access: yesStress and Health, Volume 42, Issue 3, June 2026.
ABSTRACT University students face obstacles while pursuing their goals, and these challenges risk undermining their mental health. Goal flexibility has been identified as beneficial for promoting well‐being and protecting mental health; however, the relationship between goal flexibility and mental health challenges remains underexplored.

Large Language Models for Explainable Medical Text Summarization: A Systematic Literature Review

open access: yesWIREs Data Mining and Knowledge Discovery, Volume 16, Issue 2, June 2026.
The graphical abstract highlights the three key aspects addressed in this review: the technical background of medical text summarization methods relevant to clinical decision support; the LLM background in providing context for its diagnosis and clinical significance; and clinical decision support with summarization and explainability in patient care ...

Hybrid Heuristic Approaches for Tactical Berth Allocation Problem

open access: yes, 2014
Tactical berth allocation problem deals with: the berth allocation (as- signs and schedules vessels to berth-positions), and the quay crane (QC) assignment (finds number of QCs that will serve). In this work, we strengthen the current mathematical models

What Works Where? Scrutinizing How Personal Resources Spur Managers' Innovative Work Behaviour

open access: yesCreativity and Innovation Management, Volume 35, Issue 2, Page 425-441, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Whereas innovative work behaviour (IWB) is regarded as a desired positive behaviour for all organizational members, existing research has predominantly focused on employees, while only sparingly scrutinizing the IWB among managerial levels. To address this gap, we draw on upper echelons and positive organizational behaviour perspectives to ...
