A light‐triggered Time‐Resolved X‐ray Solution Scattering (TR‐XSS) workflow with application to protein conformational dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering captures how proteins change shape in real time under near‐native conditions. This article presents a practical workflow for light‐triggered TR‐XSS experiments, from data collection to structural refinement. Using a calcium‐transporting membrane protein as an example, the approach can be broadly applied to study ...

New Characterization for Nonlinear Weighted Best Simultaneous Approximation

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences, 2009
This paper is concerned with the problem of a wide class of weighted best simultaneous approximation in normed linear spaces, and it establishes a new characterization result for the class of approximation by virtue of the notion of simultaneous regular ...

Applicability of mitotic figure counting by deep learning: a development and pan‐cancer validation study

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In this study, we developed a deep learning method for mitotic figure counting in H&E‐stained whole‐slide images and evaluated its prognostic impact in 13 external validation cohorts from seven different cancer types. Patients with more mitotic figures per mm2 had significantly worse patient outcome in all the studied cancer types except colorectal ...

Best approximation over the whole complex plane

open access: yes, 1982
Best rational approximation over the whole complex plane is investigated. While existence is elementary, there is not always uniqueness—every constant may be the best constant approximation to f(z) = z.

Best L1-approximation

open access: yesJournal of Approximation Theory, 1984
This paper studies best \(L_ 1\)-approximation of continuous functions defined on an interval [a,b]. First a condition is established ensuring uniqueness of best \(L_ 1\)-approximation. This condition can be considered as a generalized Haar condition.

Exon 7 splicing of ERα predicts poor prognosis and increases phenotypic heterogeneity in luminal a subtype breast cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ERα splice variant ERα∆7 lacks the C‐terminus, and its expression may change phenotypes of breast cancers. Our results showed that ERα∆7 is found in the luminal A subtype, and elevated ERα∆7 levels are linked to improved cell survival with lower proliferation and migration.

The error-bounded descriptional complexity of approximation networks

open access: yes, 2010
It is well known that artificial neural nets can be used as approximators of any continuous functions to any desired degree and therefore be used e.g. in high - speed, real-time process control.

Best L2 local approximation

open access: yes, 1978
In 1934, Walsh noted that the Taylor polynomial of degree n can be obtained by taking the limit as ϵ → 0+ of the net of nth degree polynomials which best approximate f in the closed discs ¦ z ¦ ⩽ ϵ.
