An empirical Bayes derivation of best linear unbiased predictors [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences, 2002
Let (Y1, θ1), …, (Yn, θn) be independent real‐valued random vectors with Yi, given θi, is distributed according to a distribution depending only on θi for i = 1, …, n. In this paper, best linear unbiased predictors (BLUPs) of the θi′s are investigated. We show that BLUPs of θi′s do not exist in certain situations.

Upper bounds for the Euclidean distances between the BLUPs

open access: yesSpecial Matrices, 2018
In this article we consider the general linear model {y, X ß, V} where y is the observable random vector with expectation X ß and covariance matrix V. Our interest is on predicting the unobservable random vector y* which comes from y* = X* ß + ƹ* where ...

Application of single-step single nucleotide polymorphism best linear unbiased predictor model with unknown-parent groups for type traits in Japanese Holsteins

open access: yesJournal of Dairy Science, 2023
: The objectives of this study were to investigate the computational performance and the predictive ability and bias of a single-step SNP BLUP model (ssSNPBLUP) in genotyped young animals with unknown-parent groups (UPG) for type traits, using national ...

Nonparametric estimation of mean-squared prediction error in nested-error regression models [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Nested-error regression models are widely used for analyzing clustered data. For example, they are often applied to two-stage sample surveys, and in biology and econometrics.

Multibreed genomic evaluation for production traits of dairy cattle in the United States using single-step genomic best linear unbiased predictor

open access: yesJournal of Dairy Science, 2022
: Official multibreed genomic evaluations for dairy cattle in the United States are based on multibreed BLUP evaluation followed by single-breed estimation of SNP effects.

Estimation and prediction based on k-record values from normal distribution

open access: yesStatistica, 2014
In this paper, we introduce the k-record values arising from normal distribution. After computing the means, variances and covariances of the k-record values, we determine the best linear unbiased estimators for the location and scale parameters of ...

Improved multi-trait prediction of wheat end-product quality traits by integrating NIR-predicted phenotypes

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2023
Historically, end-product quality testing has been costly and required large flour samples; therefore, it was generally implemented in the late phases of variety development, imposing a huge cost on the breeding effort and effectiveness.

Exploring the Link Between Additive Heritability and Prediction Accuracy From a Ridge Regression Perspective

open access: yesFrontiers in Genetics, 2020
Genome-Wide Association Studies (GWAS) explain only a small fraction of heritability for most complex human phenotypes. Genomic heritability estimates the variance explained by the SNPs on the whole genome using mixed models and accounts for the many ...

Nonparametric Methods in Astronomy: Think, Regress, Observe -- Pick Any Three [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Telescopes are much more expensive than astronomers, so it is essential to minimize required sample sizes by using the most data-efficient statistical methods possible.

Design-based composite estimation of small proportions in small domains

open access: yesNonlinear Analysis, 2023
Traditional direct estimation methods are inefficient for domains of a survey population with small sample sizes. To estimate the domain proportions, we combine the direct estimators and the regression-synthetic estimators based on domain-level ...
