Ensuring food safety in Asian domestic markets: through proximity or standards? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The growing distrust of consumers in the safety of food is widely documented in both developed and transitional economies. This is related to the growing intensification or even industrialisation of food production and processing as well as to the ...

Modeling the HeII Transverse Proximity Effect: Constraints on Quasar Lifetime and Obscuration

open access: yes, 2017
The HeII transverse proximity effect - enhanced HeII Ly{\alpha} transmission in a background sightline caused by the ionizing radiation of a foreground quasar - offers a unique opportunity to probe the emission properties of quasars, in particular the ...

A Depolarizing Leak in Sodium Bicarbonate Cotransporter NBCe1 Causes Brain Edema

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives SLC4A4 encodes electrogenic sodium bicarbonate cotransporter NBCe1, prominently expressed in kidney and brain. Recessive loss‐of‐function variants in SLC4A4 cause proximal renal tubular acidosis, no brain edema. In the brain, NBCe1 is expressed by astrocytes, where it regulates pH and mediates astrocyte volume changes.

Existence and Uniqueness of Best Proximity Points for Generalized Almost Contractions

open access: yesAbstract and Applied Analysis, 2014
The purpose of this paper is to elicit some interesting extensions of generalized almost contraction mappings to the case of non-self-mappings with α-proximal admissible and prove best proximity point theorems for this classes.

Hip Morphology–Based Osteoarthritis Risk Prediction Models: Development and External Validation Using Individual Participant Data From the World COACH Consortium

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective This study aims to develop hip morphology‐based radiographic hip osteoarthritis (RHOA) risk prediction models and investigates the added predictive value of hip morphology measurements and the generalizability to different populations. Methods We combined data from nine prospective cohort studies participating in the Worldwide Collaboration ...

The delegate paradox: Why polarized politicians can represent citizens best [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Many advocate for political reforms intended to resolve apparent disjunctures between politicians’ ideologically polarized policy positions and citizens’ less polarized policy preferences.

Coincidence best proximity points for geraghty type proximal cyclic contractions

open access: yesJournal of Mathematics and Computer Science, 2018
Summary: In this paper, we study the notions of generalized Geraghty proximal cyclic contractions for non-self mapping and obtain coincidence best proximity point theorems in the framework of complete metric spaces. Some examples are given to show the validity of our results. Our results extended and unify many existing results in the literature.

Ultrasonography Compared With Computed Tomography in Identifying Thoracic Aortic Aneurysms in Patients With Giant Cell Arteritis

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective The objectives of this study were to evaluate the correlation and agreement between ultrasonography and computed tomography (CT) in measuring ascending aorta diameter in patients with giant cell arteritis (GCA) and to investigate the development of new ascending aortic aneurysms in patients with newly diagnosed GCA.

Some Results on Fixed and Best Proximity Points of Precyclic Self-Mappings

open access: yesJournal of Applied Mathematics, 2013
This paper is devoted to investigating the limit properties of distances and the existence and uniqueness of fixed points, best proximity points and existence, and uniqueness of limit cycles, to which the iterated sequences converge, of single-valued ...

Multiobjective Reliability Allocation in Multi-State Systems: Decision Making by Visualization and Analysis of Pareto Fronts and Sets

open access: yes, 2011
ISBN 978-1-4471-2206-7Reliability-based design, operation and maintenance of multi-state systems lead to multiobjective (multicriteria) optimization problems whose solutions are represented in terms of Pareto Fronts and Sets.
