Micelle formation in beta-casein solutions

Polymer, 2009
We have studied by Small Angle Neutron Scattering the structure of beta-casein in aqueous solutions in a wide range of temperatures and denaturant concentrations. For higher temperatures and low denaturant concentrations, we find micelles. These may be described by using a two shell model with constant concentration in every shell.

Dynamic adsorption of beta-casein at the gas–liquid interface

Food Hydrocolloids, 2006
The dynamic adsorption of beta-casein onto the air-water interface was experimentally studied in terms of the dynamic surface tension using the pendant bubble method. The experimental data was modelled based on two solutions: diffusion towards a planar interface (Ward and Tordai solution) and a new solution for diffusion to a spherical bubble surface ...

Structure of beta-casein.

The Journal of dairy research, 1979
The temperature and concentration dependent association of beta-casein was studied by means of viscometry, gel filtration chromatography, electron microscopy, analytical ultracentrifugation and UV difference spectrophotometry. Degrees of polymerization of 12, 22 and 49 and free energies of association of -21, -23 and -25kJ/mole monomer were found at ...

Human beta-casein.

The Journal of dairy research, 1979
Human beta-casein occurs in multiphosphorylated forms having the same amino acid composition but with 0-5 phosphate groups/molecule. Sequence analysis was used to determine whether each of the phosphorylated forms is a mixture of species having a certain number of phosphate groups randomly distributed or whether each form contains phosphate groups on ...

Micellisation and immunoreactivities of dimeric β-caseins

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Proteins and Proteomics, 2009
Bovine beta-casein (beta-CN) is a highly amphiphilic micellising phospho-protein showing chaperone-like activity in vitro. Recently, existence of multiple sequential epitopes on beta-CN polypeptide chain in both hydrophilic-polar (psi) and hydrophobic-apolar domains (phi) has been evidenced. In order to clarify specific contribution of polar and apolar

Antibodies to Bovine Beta-Casein in Diabetes and Other Autoimmune Diseases

Hormone and Metabolic Research, 2002
Cow's milk is thought to be an environmental trigger for autoimmune response in Type 1 diabetes. In the present study, our aim was to investigate the antibody response to bovine beta-casein in different immune- and non-immune-mediated diseases and to establish whether such an antibody response is specific to Type 1 diabetes.

C-terminal labelling of beta-casein.

FEBS letters, 1987
This paper is the first to report specific labelling of a native protein at its C-terminal end by carboxypeptidase Y-catalyzed transpeptidation between beta-casein and tritiated Phe amide. A tryptic digest of the radiolabelled protein was resolved by reversed-phase HPLC and a single labelled peptide was isolated therefrom.

POLYMORPHISM OF THE BETA-CASEIN GENE IN HOLSTEIN COWS

Molochnoe i miasnoe skotovodstvo, 2021

Quantification of β-casein in human milk

Journal of Dairy Research, 1985
SUMMARYA method is described for preparing immunologically homogeneous human milk β-casein, against which monospecific rabbit antiserum was prepared. The antiserum was used to quantify β-casein, the major human casein, by rocket Immunoelectrophoresis in individual milk samples.

Ability of cyclodextrins to inhibit aggregation of .beta.-casein

Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 1991
The purpose was to ascertain whether cyclodextrins can interact to inhibit aggregation of β-casein at 31°C and, if so, to explore the nature of this interaction.
