Risk of acute pancreatitis with DPP‐4 inhibitors versus SGLT2 inhibitors in medication‐naïve individuals with diabetes: A target trial emulation

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, EarlyView.
Abstract Aims We investigated whether dipeptidyl peptidase‐4 inhibitor (DPP‐4i) use was associated with a higher risk of acute pancreatitis compared with sodium–glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitor (SGLT2i) use in antidiabetic medication‐naïve individuals.

A novel GH3-β-glucosidase from soda lake metagenomic libraries with desirable properties for biomass degradation

open access: yesScientific Reports
Beta-glucosidases catalyze the hydrolysis of the glycosidic bonds of cellobiose, producing glucose, which is a rate-limiting step in cellulose biomass degradation.

Moderate Phosphorus Addition to Field-Grown Bananas Enhanced Soil Microbial Enzyme Activities but Had Negligible Impacts on Bacterial, Fungal, and Nematode Diversity

open access: yesApplied Microbiology
On commercial banana (Musa spp.) plantations, soils are often supplemented with phosphorus (P) fertiliser to optimise production. Such additions may influence the diversity and function of soil microbial communities, which play important roles in P ...

A macrophage receptor for liver lysosomal .BETA.-glucosidase.

open access: yesCell Structure and Function, 1988
beta-Glucosidase was purified from lysosomal membranes isolated from rat liver. Binding and uptake of the purified beta-glucosidase were mediated via an apparently single binding site on rat peritoneal macrophages. The number of sites and the Kd were 4.20 X 10(4)/cell and 1.00 X 10(-7) M, respectively.

SGLT2 inhibitors and mortality in older adults with diabetic kidney disease: A target trial emulation study

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, EarlyView.
Abstract Aims Randomized controlled trials on sodium‐glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors have yielded inconsistent findings regarding mortality benefits. It remains unclear whether, and in which subgroups, SGLT2 inhibitors confer survival benefits in older adults with diabetic kidney disease (DKD).

Navigating PRKCSH’s impact on cancer: from N-linked glycosylation to death pathway and anti-tumor immunity

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology
PRKCSH, also known as Glucosidase II beta subunit (GluIIβ), is a crucial component of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) quality control system for N-linked glycosylation, essential for identifying and eliminating misfolded proteins.

Biomodification of dentin collagen with hydroalcoholic propolis extract: Impact on resin–dentin adhesion

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Oral Sciences, EarlyView.
Abstract This in vitro study evaluated the effect of hydroalcoholic propolis extract (HPE) as a collagen cross‐linking agent for preserving the dentin–adhesive interface. Dentin beams from human third molars were demineralized with 10% phosphoric acid and assigned to five treatments: distilled water (control), 6.5% grape seed extract (GSE), and HPE at ...

Antidiabetic Activities of Agarwood (Aquilaria malaccensis) Leaf Extracts via Enhanced Insulin Secretion in BRIN-BD11 Pancreatic Beta-Cells

open access: yesJurnal Sylva Lestari
Agarwood leaves (Aquilaria malaccensis), a non-timber forest products, shows significant potential as a source of antidiabetic compounds. This study aims to evaluate the antidiabetic activity of agarwood leaves and their cytotoxicity on pancreatic beta ...

Reinventing henna: Enzyme‐catalysed colour release from stabilized Lawsonia inermis L. extracts

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cosmetic Science, EarlyView.
The instability and reduced dyeing performance of a cosmetic formulation containing 2‐hydroxy‐1,4‐naphthoquinone (lawsone), derived from Lawsonia inermis L., is demonstrated in comparison to a novel two‐component system. This system comprises one formulation with naturally occurring lawsone precursors and a second containing a specific hydrolase ...
