Postmortem Distribution of 3‐Beta‐Hydroxybutyrate

Journal of Forensic Sciences, 2013
AbstractThe concentrations of 3‐beta‐hydroxybutyrate (3HB) in femoral blood, urine, vitreous humor as well as pericardial and cerebrospinal fluids were retrospectively examined in a series of medico‐legal autopsies, which included cases of diabetic ketoacidosis, hypothermia fatalities without ethanol in blood, bodies presenting mild decompositional ...

Association of Beta Hydroxybutyric Acidosis with Isoniazid Intoxication

Journal of Toxicology: Clinical Toxicology, 1984
Acute metabolic acidosis associated with accumulation of lactate has been previously reported in isoniazid (INH) intoxication. To our knowledge, association of INH toxicity with beta-hydroxybutyric acidosis has not been demonstrated previously. The present report documents the occurrence of beta-hydroxybutyric acidosis in patients with INH intoxication.

Influence of beta-hydroxybutyrate on cultured mammalian cells

Experimental Cell Research, 1965
Abstract Accumulation of fat granules in cultured human liver cells and mouse fibroblasts was induced by β-hydroxybutyrate (BHB) at concentrations of 1 per cent or more. Metabolic effects concomitant with the ketone produced accumulation of fat granules included reduced DNA synthesis and glucose utilization.

UNRECOGNIZED PERSISTENCE OF BETA-HYDROXYBUTYRATE IN DIABETIC KETOACIDOSIS

Endocrine Research, 2001
We quantitated serial serum beta-hydroxybutyrate (beta-OHB) levels using the Ketosite method in 9 children with IDDM who were treated for diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) and compared them to urinary ketone measurements by dipstick. Persistent elevations of serum beta-OHB were seen in six patients when the urine became clear of ketones; five of these ...
