Sulbactam: a beta-lactamase inhibitor.
Clinical pharmacy, 1988The chemistry, pharmacology, microbiology, pharmacokinetics, clinical efficacy, and adverse effects of sulbactam are reviewed. Sulbactam is a competitive, irreversible beta-lactamase inhibitor. Its binding to penicillin-binding proteins imparts weak intrinsic antibacterial activity.

[Development of beta-lactamase inhibitors].
Nihon rinsho. Japanese journal of clinical medicine, 1997The proportion of beta-lactamase producing bacteria in each species of clinical isolates is high (over 90%) in these years. According to the survey of bacterial resistance in 1995, higher proportion of resistant bacterial species against ampicillin, piperacillin (PIPC), cefazolin, cefotiam was observed.

Pharmacokinetic properties of beta-lactamase inhibitors.
International journal of clinical pharmacology and therapeutics, 1999In recent years, the use of combinations of beta-lactam-antibiotics with beta-lactamase inhibitors has been proven to be a useful and effective strategy to improve upon the therapeutic value of beta-lactam antibiotics. The objective of this article is to evaluate the pharmacokinetic properties of three commercially available beta-lactamase inhibitors ...

Development of beta-lactamase inhibitors.
The Journal of reproductive medicine, 1990The resistance of bacteria to beta-lactam antibiotics was first associated with the production of the enzyme beta-lactamase as long ago as 1940. Since then, increasing numbers of beta-lactamase-producing bacteria capable of inactivating penicillins and cephalosporins have been isolated clinically.
