The growth of octacalcium phosphate on beta tricalcium phosphate

Journal of Crystal Growth, 1983
The crystallization of calcium phosphate phases from metastable supersaturated solutions following seeding with well characterized tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP) solid has been studied at 37°C, using the constant composition method. The results confirm that at a pH of 6.00, it is impossible to precipitate β-TCP at ambient temperatures.

Dynamic fatigue of beta tricalcium phosphate bioceramics

Journal of Materials Science Letters, 1993
Tricalcium phosphate (TCP) ceramics are particularly attractive ,candidates for application as temporary implants in the human body to fill parts of skeleton. TCP possesses many favourable properties such as biocompatibility with bone tissue; bioactivity, e.g.

Beta‐tricalcium phosphate release from brushite cement surface

Journal of Biomedical Materials Research Part A, 2007
AbstractDifferent in vivo studies demonstrated that brushite cements are biocompatible, bioresorbable, and osteoconductive. However, the decay of brushite cements has been scarcely studied even though it may be of great concern for clinical applications in highly blood‐perfused regions.

Osteoclast resorption of beta-tricalcium phosphate controlled by surface architecture

Biomaterials, 2014
A resorbable bone graft substitute should mimic native bone in its capacity to support bone formation and be remodeled by osteoclasts (OCl) or other multinucleated cells such as foreign body giant cells (FBGC). We hypothesize that by changing the scale of surface architecture of beta-tricalcium phosphate (TCP), cellular resorption can be influenced ...

Effects of ultraviolet irradiation on beta-tricalcium phosphate as a bone graft substitute

Odontology, 2022
Surface modification of various materials using ultraviolet (UV) irradiation improves their wettability. The purpose of this study was to investigate the wettability of a β-tricalcium phosphate (TCP) surface and the composition changes and bioactivity of β-TCP after UV irradiation.

Microstructured beta-tricalcium phosphate for alveolar cleft repair: a two-centre study

International Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, 2019
The current standard of care in alveolar cleft repair is timing the procedure in the mixed dentition stage and making use of autologous bone to restore the maxillary defect. Using a synthetic bone substitute bypasses the risk of donor site morbidity and reduces the operation time.

[Advances in research and application of beta-tricalcium phosphate, collagen and beta-tricalcium phosphate/collagen composite in bone tissue engineering].

Shanghai kou qiang yi xue = Shanghai journal of stomatology, 2015
Bone defects in oral and maxillofacial region was a common problem. To repair the defect, bone grafts including autograft, allograft and artificial bone graft were used in clinic despite of their disadvantages. Nowadays, bone tissue engineering has become a commonly used method to repair bone defect.

Influence of Solvent Polarity on Synthesis of Beta - Tricalcium Phosphate

Key Engineering Materials, 2007
Beta tricalcium phosphate (β - TCP) has been synthesized at relatively low temperature. The reaction product has been characterized by XRD, FT-IR and TEM. It is found that the polarity of synthesis media plays an important role in the formation of β - TCP crystal phase.

Synthesis and Characterization of Novel Crystalline Mesoporous Beta-Tricalcium Phosphate Nanoparticles

Materials Science Forum, 2018
A nanosized magnesium substituted beta-tricalcium phosphate (Mg:β-TCP) was synthesized by an aqueous precipitation method, at room temperature, in one single step. In the present study, the novel and stable Mg:β-TCP resulted in a crystalline and spherical nanoparticles (diameter of approximately 20 nm) with mesoporous structures and a high specific ...
