The beta-xylosidase of Thermomonospora.

This study is concerned with characterizing cell-bound inducible beta-xylosidase produced by a strain of the thermophilic bacterial genus Thermomonospora. A crude preparation of this enzyme recovered from sonicated cells of this organism displayed high activity against paranitrophenyl-beta-xylopyranoside over a pH range of 5.5-7.7.

Characterization of β-xylosidase enzyme from a Pichia stipitis mutant

beta-Xylosidase production was maximal for the mutant Pichia stipitis NP54376 grown on xylan as the sole carbon source. beta-Xylosidase was purified from culture supernatant by (NH(4))(2)SO(4) precipitation and a hydrophobic interaction chromatography on phenyl sepharose. Optima of pH and temperature were 5.0 and 50 degrees C, respectively.

Immobilization and characterization of a thermostable β-xylosidase to generate a reusable biocatalyst

The thermostable beta-xylosidase from Sulfolobus solfataricus, expressed in Escherichia coli, was immobilized by entrapment into alginate with full recovery of activity and tested for xylose production from xylan hydrolysates. Since the recombinant activity was also cell bound, alginate beads entrapping E. coli whole cells were also prepared.

[Production of beta-xylosidase by the yeast Cryptococcus podzolicus].

In studying the beta-xylosidase production by yeast Cryptococcus podzolicus (Basidiomycetes), it was shown to be an inducible secretory enzyme. Xylooligosaccharides generated from xylan and methyl beta-xyloside were found to induce the beta-xylosidase synthesis.
