Nebivolol: a novel beta-blocker with nitric oxide-induced vasodilatation

open access: yes, 2006
Robert WeissAndroscoggin Cardiology Associates, Auburn, ME, USAAbstract: Nebivolol is a novel beta1-blocker with a greater degree of selectivity for beta1- adrenergic receptors than other agents in this class and a nitric oxide (NO)-potentiating ...

Ocular surface changes in glaucomatous patients treated with and without preservatives beta-blockers

open access: yes, 2014
To determine whether there were ocular surface changes in glaucomatous patients treated with preservatives beta-blockers who switched to preservative-free beta-blockers. METHODS: This was a prospective, longitudinal, open-labeled study.

Engineered extracellular vesicles enriched with the miR‐214/199a cluster enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the miR‐214/199a cluster is associated with recurrence in ovarian cancer. Engineered small extracellular vesicles (m214‐sEVs) elevate miR‐214‐3p/miR‐199a‐5p in tumor cells, suppress β‐catenin, TLR4, and YKT6 signaling, reprogram tumor‐derived sEV cargo, reduce chemoresistance and migration, and enhance carboplatin efficacy and survival in ...

The Beta-Blocker Heart Attack Trial

open access: yes, 1981
The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute has taken the unusual step of prematurely ending one of its major clinical trials, the Beta-Blocker Heart Attack Trial (BHAT), on the advice of its Policy and Data Monitoring Board.

Beta-blocker treatment in the critically ill: a systematic review and meta-analysis

open access: yes, 2022
Critical illness may lead to activation of the sympathetic system. The sympathetic stimulation may be further increased by exogenous catecholamines, such as vasopressors and inotropes.

IMPDH inhibition enhances cytarabine efficacy in SAMHD1‐expressing leukaemia cells via guanine nucleotide depletion

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytarabine is a key therapy for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), but its efficacy is limited by the dNTPase SAMHD1, which hydrolyses its active metabolite. Screening nucleotide biosynthesis inhibitors revealed that IMPDH inhibitors selectively sensitise SAMHD1‐proficient AML cells to cytarabine.

Keratin 19 as a prognostic marker and contributing factor of metastasis and chemoresistance in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Keratin 19 (KRT19) is overexpressed in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer with high levels of Kallikrein‐related peptidases (KLK) 4–7 and is associated with poor survival. In vivo analyses demonstrate that elevated KRT19 increases peritoneal tumour burden.
