Elevation shapes alpine snow algal blooms and their influence on albedo reduction

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Graphical summary of elevational trends in Sanguina‐dominated snow algal blooms. Increasing elevation was associated with larger cells, lower Chla content per cell, higher astaxanthin ratios, lower snow water content, and reduced cell‐normalized albedo, whereas algal cell density showed no consistent elevational trend.

Management of Surgical Margins in the Excision of Oral Leukoplakia: A Scoping Review

open access: yesOral Diseases, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To map the literature on management of surgical margins for oral leukoplakia (OL) and proliferative verrucous leukoplakia (PVL). Methods Searches were performed in five electronic databases and gray literature. Studies involving patients undergoing any type of surgical excision of OL or PVL were included.

Effect of dietary lipids on beta-carotene absorption into micelles

open access: yes, 1991
As beta-carotene is transported via micelles across the intestinal lumen for absorption, the factors that regulate uptake into micelles could also regulate at least in part beta-carotene absorption in humans. Thus, we have studied the effect of different

Gene Editing of Nicotiana benthamiana Architecture for Space‐Efficient Production of Recombinant Proteins in Closed Environments

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Indoor vertical farming (VF) offers practical advantages for the cultivation of plant protein bio‐factories including plant uniformity, product consistency, water/nutrient recycling and production cycles on a year‐round basis. Much progress has been achieved toward the development of innovative systems for artificial lighting, automated ...

PHOTOPROTECTION IN ERYTHROPOIETIC PROTOPHYRIA: MECHANISM OF PHOTOPROTECTION BY BETA CAROTENE

open access: yes, 1977
Erythropoietic protoporphyria is a genetic disease caused by the accumulation of protoporphyrin IX. This molecule absorbs 400-nm light and its presence is at times associated with severe cutaneous photosensitivity.

Vestigial Plastids in Parasitic Plants: Evolutionary Remnants or Adaptive Innovations?

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Throughout the evolutionary history of plants, chloroplasts originating from a cyanobacterial endosymbiosis have undergone remarkable adaptation and specialization, giving rise to a multitude of plastid types. The evolution toward parasitism in plants represents a particularly extreme case of such specialization.
