G protein beta gamma subunits synthesized in Sf9 cells. Functional characterization and the significance of prenylation of gamma [PDF]
Heterotrimeric guanine nucleotide-binding regulatory proteins (G proteins) consist of a nucleotide-binding alpha subunit and a high- affinity complex of beta and gamma subunits.

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Elevation-dependent drivers of plant diversity across spatial scales on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau
IntroductionIn mountain ecosystems, plant diversity often exhibits regular patterns along elevational gradients. Yet, it remains poorly understood how multiple factors jointly shape these patterns.MethodsTo fill this gap, we used a dataset of 758 ...

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

To comprehensively understand the impact of anthropogenic activities on biodiversity, we must understand how biodiversity has changed over time and what are the underlying processes.

Native diversity contributes to composition heterogeneity of exotic floras
Variation in species composition among sites (beta diversity) is generally thought to be driven by environmental filtering and dispersal limitation, but the role of biotic interactions has not been sufficiently addressed.

Spatial Scaling in Model Plant Communities
We present an analytically tractable variant of the voter model that provides a quantitatively accurate description of beta-diversity (two-point correlation function) in two tropical forests.
