Purpose‐Adaptable Reinforced 3D Hyaluronic‐Acid Based Platform to Study Pathomechanisms of the Central Nervous System

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Platform system to create biofabricated 3D spinal cord tissue models: Combining high resolution PCL fiber placement, a customized, hyaluronic acid‐based hydrogel, two cell types (spinal cord neurons and astrocytes) together with three distinct laminin isoforms allow the formation of functional cell–cell network interactions.

Neutrino Physics: Status and Prospects

open access: yes, 2003
This pedagogical overview will cover the current status of neutrino physics from an experimentalist's point of view, focusing primarily on oscillation studies. The evidence for neutrino oscillations will be presented, along with the prospects for further

Sharp oscillation criteria for fourth order sub-half-linear and super-half-linear differential equations

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Qualitative Theory of Differential Equations, 2008
This paper is concerned with the oscillatory behavior of the fourth-order nonlinear differential equation $$ \bigl(p(t)|x^{\prime\prime}|^{\alpha-1}\,x^{\prime\prime}\bigr)^{\prime\prime} +q(t)|x|^{\beta-1}x=0\,,\tag{E} $$ where $\alpha>0$, $\beta>0$ are

Controllable Dynamic Mechanical Cell Stimulation using Magnetically Actuated Artificial Cilia

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This paper introduces a platform based on magnetic artificial cilia for providing controllable dynamic mechanical stimulation to single cells, suitable for investigating large cell populations and enabling live cell imaging. Proof‐of‐principle experiments show that cell morphology is strongly influenced by the artificial cilia, that cellular forces can

3D Soft Hydrogels Induce Human Mesenchymal Stem Cells “Deep” Quiescence

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Three‐dimensional soft hydrogels mimicking the bone marrow niche induce deep quiescence in human mesenchymal stem cells. Unlike 2D culture, 3D matrices halt proliferation, regulate cell‐cycle and quiescence markers, and downregulate mTORC1 signaling, preserving stem cell phenotype and therapeutic potential ex vivo.

Computational Models Describing Possible Mechanisms for Generation of Excessive Beta Oscillations in Parkinson's Disease.

open access: yesPLoS Computational Biology, 2015
In Parkinson's disease, an increase in beta oscillations within the basal ganglia nuclei has been shown to be associated with difficulty in movement initiation.
