Neurosystems: brain rhythms and cognitive processing [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Neuronal rhythms are ubiquitous features of brain dynamics, and are highly correlated with cognitive processing. However, the relationship between the physiological mechanisms producing these rhythms and the functions associated with the rhythms remains ...

Transitions between beta and gamma rhythms in neural systems.

open access: yesPhysical review. E, Statistical, nonlinear, and soft matter physics, 2002
We study the coexistence of different rhythms in a local network of one inhibitory and two excitatory nerve cells for a wide range of the excitatory synapse strength and of the slow K+-channel conductance. The dynamic features of spike trains in the presence of noise are discussed.

Beta Rhythms (15–20 Hz) Generated by Nonreciprocal Communication in Hippocampus [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Neurophysiology, 2007
Generation of gamma rhythms in reciprocally connected areas of cortex produces synchronous neuronal firing, although little is known about the consequences of gamma rhythms when generated in nonreciprocally connected regions. This nonreciprocity exists in hippocampus, where gamma rhythms are generated in area CA3 in vitro and in vivo and ...

Magnetic Textiles: A Review of Materials, Fabrication, Properties, and Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Magnetic textiles (M‐textiles) are emerging as a programmable materials platform that merges magnetic matter with hierarchical textile structures. This article consolidates magnetic material classes, textile architectures, and fabrication and magnetization strategies, revealing structure–property–function relationships that govern magneto‐mechanical ...

Measuring Shared Information and Coordinated Activity in Neuronal Networks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Most nervous systems encode information about stimuli in the responding activity of large neuronal networks. This activity often manifests itself as dynamically coordinated sequences of action potentials.

Multimodal Actuation and Environment Adaptive Strategies of Bio‐Inspired Micro/Nanorobots in Precision Medicine

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
An introduction for multidrive and environment‐adaptive micro/nanorobotics: design and fabrication strategies, intelligent actuation, and their applications. Various intelligent actuation approaches—magnetic, acoustic, optical, chemical, and biological—can be synergistically designed to enhance flexibility and adaptive behavior for precision medicine ...

The effects of Tai Chi practice on intermuscular beta coherence and the rubber hand illusion

open access: yesFrontiers in Human Neuroscience, 2016
Tai Chi (TC) is a slow-motion contemplative exercise that is associated with improvements in sensorimotor measures, including decreased force variability, enhanced tactile acuity, and improved proprioception, especially in elderly populations.
