A microstructural model for biaxial fatigue conditions

International Journal of Fatigue, 2011
This paper presents the extension to biaxial proportional loads of a short crack growth model based on the blocking of dislocations at grain boundaries. The model considers a small inclined crack and its associated plastic zones blocked in a grain boundary and within a plane biaxial stress field.

Biaxial Fatigue Cracking from Notch

2013
Abstract : A study was initiated to clarify the behavior of biaxial fatigue cracking from a notch, transverse or 45 deg inclined, in a cruciform specimen of a 7075-T651 aluminum alloy. The biaxial fatigue test was conducted in air and aqueous 3.5% NaCl solution at room temperature under inphase and 180 deg out-of-phase loadings with biaxiality ratios ...

Corrosion and biaxial fatigue of welded structures

Journal of Materials Processing Technology, 2003
Abstract The aim of this research is to develop an experimental approach for corrosion fatigue behaviour of welded structures subjected to simultaneous biaxial, rotating-bending and torsional loading, results of which could be used in railway bridges, ship, offshore structures, ground vehicles etc.

Crack Growth Studies in Biaxial Fatigue

1988
The influence of strain state on the nucleation and early growth of fatigue cracks was investigated. Thin-walled tubular specimens of Inconel 718 were subjected to combinations of axial and torsional loading in the low-cycle fatigue regime. The changes in crack growth rates as a function of crack size have been examined at effective ...

Modeling of Biaxial Fatigue of Natural Rubber

2006
Numerous rubber components experience multiaxial cyclic stresses in service. From a practical point of view, there is a great need for predicting the effects of complex loading histories on the fatigue life of rubber parts. This paper studies the modeling of fatigue natural rubber under biaxial loading by using a specimen called pancake, in which both ...

The development of the biaxial rotation test for fatiguing fibres

Journal of Physics E: Scientific Instruments, 1979
A new, simplified apparatus is described for fatigue-testing fibres using the technique of biaxial rotation over a pin. This involves the tension-compression of fibres which are rotated whilst bent over a pin. The angle through which the fibre is bent during a fatigue test can be altered, and the effect of this on fatigue life and fracture morphology ...

A Fatigue Test Machine for Biaxial Compression of Concrete

Journal of Testing and Evaluation, 1988
Abstract A 980 kN (220 000 lb) capacity test machine has been developed to study the fatigue behavior of concrete under biaxial compression. It features a load bifurcation mechanism and brush-type loading platens. Concrete plates 15.2 by 15.2 by 3.8 cm (6 by 6 by 1.5 in.) can be tested with the two principal stress ratios ranging from 0 (

Biaxial Fatigue Testing of Thin Films

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2006
A new experimental setup, which allows for testing in an equi‐biaxial loading condition, has been developed and applied to investigate the fatigue behaviour of thin films. A load controlled cycling, performed at room temperature on flat specimens, reproduces the strain amplitude and mean strain in the film corresponding to a thermal cycling in a given ...

Biaxial Fatigue Tests in PWR Environment

Volume 1: Codes & Standards
Abstract The FABIME2e test rig was developed in CEA in France to perform biaxial fatigue tests on disc-shaped specimens. Previous tests aimed to evaluate the Pressurised Water Reactor (PWR) environment’s effect on fatigue life at constant strain amplitude (triangular waveforms) on various stainless steels.

The Criterion of Thermal Fatigue in Biaxial Stress States

1992
For a uniaxial stress state fatigue criteria were applied which included the number of cycles to fatigue Nf, a material constant and strain process parameters. In this paper it is assumed that the thermal fatigue criterion for biaxial stress states will contain a parameter in the form of the intensity increment of total strain Δei and the material ...
