Biaxial mechanical testing of human sclera

The biomechanical environment of the optic nerve head (ONH), of interest in glaucoma, is strongly affected by the biomechanical properties of sclera. However, there is a paucity of information about the variation of scleral mechanical properties within eyes and between individuals. We thus used biaxial testing to measure scleral stiffness in human eyes.

Biaxial Testing of Membrane Biomaterials: Testing Equipment and Procedures

A testing facility for measuring the biaxial mechanical properties of highly deformable membranes is described. Forces are applied, via strain-gauge force transducers, to four points on each side of an initially square 12 to 25 mm membrane sample to produce biaxial extensions of up to 80 percent of undeformed length.

Biaxial Testing of Unidirectional Carbon-Epoxy Composite Using Biaxial Iosipescu Test Fixture

Journal of Composite Materials, 1997
In this study, the biaxial Iosipescu test fixture has been employed to determine the failure properties of a unidirectional carbon-epoxy composite subjected to combined shear and transverse tensile stresses. The range of possible biaxial stress states has been extended by varying the fiber orientations in the Iosipescu specimens.
