The Use of Sodium Bicarbonate in the Treatment of Acidosis in Sepsis: A Literature Update on a Long Term Debate

open access: yesCritical Care Research and Practice, 2015
Introduction. Sepsis and its consequences such as metabolic acidosis are resulting in increased mortality. Although correction of metabolic acidosis with sodium bicarbonate seems a reasonable approach, there is ongoing debate regarding the role of ...

Iron deficiency chlorosis in aromatic grasses—A review

open access: yesEnvironmental Challenges, 2022
Land degradation is a major threat to environmental sustainability (Mehrabi et al., 2021). About 25% of the earth's surface is alkaline in nature and nutrient deficiencies are common in such lands (López-Bucio et al. 2000).

Correlation between peripheral venous and arterial blood gas measurements in patients admitted to the intensive care unit: A single-center study

open access: yesKidney Research and Clinical Practice, 2013
Background: The objective of this study was to examine the correlation between arterial blood gas (ABG) and peripheral venous blood gas (VBG) samples for all commonly used parameters in patients admitted to a medical intensive care unit (ICU). Methods: A

Airway epithelial cells: ‘Bicarbonate in’≠‘Bicarbonate out’

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, 2012
The importance of intracellular and extracellular pH to physiological function is unquestioned. There are few scenarios in which pathological processes do not include aberrant pH. For example, cystic fibrosis, a genetic disease that adversely affects airways and other epithelia throughout the body, is associated with secretions that have abnormally low

Tetraethylammonium bicarbonate trihydrate [PDF]

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section E Structure Reports Online, 2011
In the title compound, C(8)H(20)N(+)·CHO(3) (-)·3H(2)O, the bicarbon-ate anion, which has a small mean deviation from the plane of 0.0014 Å, fully utilises its three O and one H atom to form various O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds with the three water mol-ecules in the asymmetric unit, generating a hydrogen-bonded layer, which extends along (10[Formula: see text])

Flux de CO2 consommé par altération chimique continentale : influences du drainage et de la lithologie = CO2 flux consumed by chemical weathering of continents : influences of drainage and lithology [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
The flux of atmospheric/soil CO2 consumed by chemical weathering of the continents (FCO2) can be estimated from bicarbonate concentrations in surface water.

β‐TrCP overexpression enhances cisplatin sensitivity by depleting BRCA1

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Low levels of β‐TrCP (Panel A) allow the accumulation of BRCA1 and CtIP, which facilitate the repair of cisplatin‐induced DNA damage via homologous recombination (HR) and promote tumor cell survival. In contrast, high β‐TrCP expression (Panel B) leads to BRCA1 and CtIP degradation, impairing HR repair, resulting in persistent DNA damage and apoptosis ...

A synthetic benzoxazine dimer derivative targets c‐Myc to inhibit colorectal cancer progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Benzoxazine dimer derivatives bind to the bHLH‐LZ region of c‐Myc, disrupting c‐Myc/MAX complexes, which are evaluated from SAR analysis. This increases ubiquitination and reduces cellular c‐Myc. Impairing DNA repair mechanisms is shown through proteomic analysis.

Combining antibody conjugates with cytotoxic and immune‐stimulating payloads maximizes anti‐cancer activity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Methods to improve antibody–drug conjugate (ADC) treatment durability in cancer therapy are needed. We utilized ADCs and immune‐stimulating antibody conjugates (ISACs), which are made from two non‐competitive antibodies, to enhance the entry of toxic payloads into cancer cells and deliver immunostimulatory agents into immune cells.
