The Natural Course of Bosch‐Boonstra‐Schaaf Optic Atrophy Syndrome

open access: yesClinical Genetics, EarlyView.
Here, we present data on genetic variants and phenotype development of 47 individuals with Bosch‐Boonstra‐Schaaf optic atrophy syndrome, a rare neurodevelopmental disorder, highlighting the fact that the disease does not appear to be fundamentally progressive.

Recurrent infective endocarditis involving bicuspid aortic valve presenting with a rare complication: The deadly kiss

open access: yesJournal of the Indian Academy of Echocardiography & Cardiovascular Imaging, 2018
Bicuspid aortic valve, the most common congenital cardiac lesion, is frequently associated with infective endocarditis (IE), and this combination is notoriously associated with increased prevalence of periannular complications.

Outcomes in Adults With Bicuspid Aortic Valves [PDF]

open access: yesJAMA, 2008
Bicuspid aortic valve is the most common congenital cardiac anomaly in the adult population. Cardiac outcomes in a contemporary population of adults with bicuspid aortic valve have not been systematically determined. To determine the frequency and predictors of cardiac outcomes in a large consecutive series of adults with bicuspid aortic valve.Cohort ...

Cyclin‐dependent kinase 13 is indispensable for normal mouse heart development

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, Volume 246, Issue 4, Page 616-630, April 2025.
Congenital heart disease (CHD) is the most common defect in live births. The role of cyclin‐dependent kinase (CDK13) in cardiogenesis and CHD was studied using a transgenic mouse model (Cdk13tm1b) carrying deletion of exons 3 and 4, causing loss of function.

Comparison of Efficacy and Safety of Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation in Patients With Bicuspid Versus Tricuspid Aortic Valves [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Bicuspid aortic valve (BAV) stenosis has been considered a contraindication to transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI). The aim of this study is to compare the efficacy and safety of TAVI in patients with BAV with those with tricuspid aortic valve

Transcatheter intervention for ruptured sinus of Valsalva aneurysm and coarctation of aorta with bicuspid aortic valve

open access: yesIHJ Cardiovascular Case Reports, 2022
Ruptured sinus of Valsalva aneurysm (RSVA) is a rare entity. Its association with severe coarctation of aorta (CoA) in the setting of bicuspid aortic valve is very rare. We hereby report simultaneous transcatheter device closure of RSVA and coarctoplasty

Comparative study of wall shear stress at the ascending aorta for different mechanical heart valve prostheses [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
An experimental study is reported which investigates the wall shear stress (WSS) distribution in a transparent model of the human aorta comparing a bileaflet mechanical heart valve (BMHV) with a trileaflet mechanical heart valve (TMHV) in physiological ...

Aortic and cardiovascular remodelling after thoracic endovascular aortic repair for blunt traumatic aortic injury in younger patients: A narrative review of physiological and clinical outcomes

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Blunt traumatic aortic injury (BTAI) is severe, often fatal in younger populations due to high‐energy deceleration mechanisms. Thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) has revolutionised BTAI treatment, surpassing the previously standard open surgical repair in mortality and complication rates.
