The Mechanism of Visible‐Light Photochemical Rearrangements of Conjugated Amide Enolates

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
Visible light irradiation of extended enolates of N‐benzylamides leads to homolytic C─N Bond cleavage, generating a biradical. Computational and mechanistic studies suggest rapid radical recombination within a solvent cage to give either ring‐expanded or rearranged products. ABSTRACT Deprotonation of conjugated amides forms colored solutions of lithium

N‐Sulfonyl Azalevoglucosan: A Versatile Platform for the Synthesis of Polysubstituted Piperidines

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
Gain by strain: The synthesis of a levoglucosan analog, in which the pyranose oxygen has been replaced by a nitrogen, allows navigation on the piperidine ring to iteratively install functional groups at C1, C2, C3, C4, and C6 positions using simple experimental protocols with minimal protecting group manipulation.

A Stable Isopterin Mimic of a Potent Bacterial Stimulant of T Cells

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
A microbial metabolite covalently binds immunological protein MR1 to potently activate specific lymphocytes called MAIT cells, but it is too unstable for biological applications. Here, using synthesis, assays, protein crystallography, and computer modelling, we report a water‐stable analogue that activates reporter cells expressing the MAIT T cell ...

Redox‐Tuned Oxycarbamates Enable Divergent C─N and C─C Functionalization of Indolizines Under Photoredox Catalysis With Green Light

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
Nonafluoromesitylsulfonyl (Nms)‐substituted oxycarbamates are introduced as redox‐lowered radical precursors for green‐light photoredox synthesis. Selective N─O bond cleavage generates amidyl radicals that directly aminate indolizines in DMF, whereas DMSO promotes 1,2‐hydrogen atom transfer (HAT) to α‐amino carbon‐centered radicals and C─C bond ...
