Simultaneous Interfacial Modification and Crystallization Control by Biguanide Hydrochloride for Stable Perovskite Solar Cells with PCE of 24.4% (Adv. Mater. 8/2022)

Advances in Materials, 2022
In article 2106118, Kuan Sun and co-workers describe how a thin biguanide hydrochloride (BGCl) film is deposited at the SnO2/perovskite interface for simultaneous interfacial modification and crystallization control.

Antidiabetic Behavior of Biguanides

Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 1983
The existence of active electron pairs on some nitrogen atoms in phenformin hydrochloride is inferred from the presence of a hydrogen catalytic polarographic wave. This finding emphasizes the ability of biguanides to form hydrogen bridges with other molecular species such as amino acids and proteins, as well as to form coordination complexes with zinc ...

Biguanides and NIDDM

Diabetes Care, 1992
The main biguanides, metformin and phenformin, were introduced in 1957 as oral glucose-lowering agents to treat non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM). Phenformin was withdrawn in many countries because of an association with lactic acidosis, but metformin does not have the same risk if appropriately prescribed. Metformin is now widely used as

IgE‐mediated chlorhexidine allergy—Cross‐reactivity with other biguanide disinfectants

Allergy. European Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, 2020
Chlorhexidine (CHX) is a widely utilized disinfectant that can cause IgE‐mediated urticaria/anaphylaxis. The cross‐reactivity of patients with IgE‐mediated CHX allergy with other disinfectants, which share structural similarities with CHX like ...

Demonstration of the mechanism of action of biguanides [PDF]

open access: possibleActa Diabetologica Latina, 1973
Palmitic acid oxidation in rat diaphragm homogenate is depressed by biguanide concentrations that are still incapable of inhibiting oxidative phosphorylation. Glucose oxidation is not directly effected by the same biguanide concentrations: however, the inhibitory effect of palmitic acid on glucose oxidation is partly removed by biguanides.

Spectrophotometric (UV) investigation on biguanide and substituted biguanides

Tetrahedron, 1972
Abstract Biguanide base and its monosalts have absorption maxima at 230 mμ which has been attributed to π-π* transition. The spectral effect on replacement of a carbon π centre by a heteroatom nitrogen centre is discussed and attempt has been made to predict the spectral shifts in biguanide base and normal salts due to the substitution heteronitrogen

Specific Inhibition of Gluconeogenesis by Biguanides [PDF]

open access: possibleNature, 1967
POSSIBLE schemes for the mechanism of the hypoglycaemic action of biguanides have raised considerable controversy in recent years. The possibility that these drugs may act through inhibition of oxidative phosphorylation, which may increase the glucose uptake of peripheral tissues1, has been frequently emphasized2–5, but experiments on the kinetics of ...

Toxicology of Biguanides

1996
The use of biguanides as oral antidiabetic agents has elicited considerable problems due to their lack of sufficient tolerability. The first derivative, phenylethylbiguanide (phenformin), was given marketing approval in the United States in 1957. Due to the serious side effects, however, the compound was withdrawn from the market in the United States ...
