Detecting Bilateral Symmetry in Perspective
2006 Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition Workshop (CVPRW'06), 2006A method is presented for efficiently detecting bilateral symmetry on planar surfaces under perspective projection. The method is able to detect local or global symmetries, locate symmetric surfaces in complex backgrounds, and detect multiple incidences of symmetry.

Bilateral symmetry in crayfish behavioral reactions
Acta Biologica Hungarica, 2008The crayfish, Procambarus cubensis, placed in the central area of a plus-maze preferred to go forward in about 50% of trials; they chose the right or left arm in 20.7 and 18.9% of the trials, respectively. In a T-maze, the difference between right and left directions was also insignificant. When exploring a plus-maze, the crayfish turned to 180 degrees

OPTIMIZED QUANTITATIVE BILATERAL SYMMETRY DETECTION
International Journal of Information Acquisition, 2005In [Westhoff et al., 2005], we proposed a novel method to determine illumination-invariant features in images. The quantitative bilateral symmetry of a given scene is computed using dynamic programming before applying the resulting symmetry image and feature vector signatures to an omnidirectional motion tracking task.

Symmetry in Healing After Bilateral Eyelid Surgery
Ophthalmic Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, 2006To determine whether surgery performed bilaterally (ptosis repair, blepharoplasty, or both) results in symmetric healing.Case series of 19 consecutive patients undergoing bilateral ptosis repair, blepharoplasty, or both. Patients were provided with questionnaires to determine their perception of the degree of symmetry in healing at four time points ...

Detection of bilateral symmetry using spatial filters
Spatial Vision, 1994When bilaterally symmetric images are spatially filtered and thresholded, a subset of the resultant 'blobs' cluster around the axis of symmetry. Consequently, a quantitative measure of blob alignment can be used to code the degree of symmetry and to locate the axis of symmetry.

Modelling the Bilateral Symmetry of Caries Incidence
Caries Research, 2008Background/Aims: Past caries experience has been shown to be the best predictor of the development of caries in the future, and clinical observations suggest that caries develops symmetrically in similar teeth on each side of the mouth.

Bilateral Symmetry Detection: Testing a ‘Callosal’ Hypothesis
Perception, 1996At the end of the 19th century Mach observed that vertical symmetry is more easily perceived than is symmetry at other orientations, and proposed this resulted from bilateral symmetry in the visual system. Numerous studies of symmetry detection have been conducted, but none has been concentrated on Mach's proposal.

Bilateral Symmetry of Morphologic Lesions in Alzheimer's Disease
Archives of Neurology, 1988We studied 16 brains of patients with Alzheimer's disease for left-right differences, or similarities, in the density of senile plaques (SPs) or neurofibrillary tangles (NFTs). Counts were made of SPs and NFTs on the left and right side of five different brain areas, which included middle frontal, superior temporal, the prosubiculum of the hippocampus (
