Bilateral symmetry analysis of breast MRI
Physics in Medicine and Biology, 2003Mammographic interpretation often uses symmetry between left and right breasts to indicate the site of potential tumour masses. This approach has not been applied to breast images obtained from MRI. We present an automatic technique for breast symmetry detection based on feature extraction techniques which does not require any efforts to co-register ...

Modelling the Bilateral Symmetry of Caries Incidence
Caries Research, 2008Background/Aims: Past caries experience has been shown to be the best predictor of the development of caries in the future, and clinical observations suggest that caries develops symmetrically in similar teeth on each side of the mouth.

Line-drawing interpretation: bilateral symmetry
IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, 1989Results previously derived by the author are used to investigate the implication of bilateral symmetry in line drawings. It is shown that the line drawing of an orthographically protected surface of revolution exhibits bilateral symmetry about the projection of its axis of revolution irrespective of the viewing direction.

Bilateral Symmetry of Morphologic Lesions in Alzheimer's Disease
Archives of Neurology, 1988We studied 16 brains of patients with Alzheimer's disease for left-right differences, or similarities, in the density of senile plaques (SPs) or neurofibrillary tangles (NFTs). Counts were made of SPs and NFTs on the left and right side of five different brain areas, which included middle frontal, superior temporal, the prosubiculum of the hippocampus (

Bilateral symmetry in crayfish behavioral reactions
Acta Biologica Hungarica, 2008The crayfish, Procambarus cubensis, placed in the central area of a plus-maze preferred to go forward in about 50% of trials; they chose the right or left arm in 20.7 and 18.9% of the trials, respectively. In a T-maze, the difference between right and left directions was also insignificant. When exploring a plus-maze, the crayfish turned to 180 degrees

Bilateral Symmetry in Central Retinal Blood Vessels
2020 8th International Workshop on Biometrics and Forensics (IWBF), 2020Symmetry can be defined as uniformity, equivalence or exact similarity of two parts divided along an axis. While our left and right eyes clearly have a high degree of external bilateral symmetry, it is less obvious to what degree they have internal bilateral symmetry.

Plant development: Building bilateral symmetry
Current BiologyBilateral symmetry independently evolved at least 130 times in flowers. In all known cases, CYCLOIDEA (CYC) exhibits asymmetric dorsal-ventral expression. A new study details the CYC spatiotemporal expression pattern in monkeyflower floral meristem and its interplay with BLADE-ON PETIOLE (BOP) and auxin activity.

Perception, 1997
Palmer and Hemenway (1978 Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Perception and Performance4 691–702) reported that shapes with multiple axes of symmetry are processed faster than those with single symmetry even when trials are blocked so that the subject knows that any symmetry axis will be vertical.

Bilateral symmetry in active galaxies
Physics Reports, 1998Abstract The bilateral symmetry around active galaxies was discovered in the radio continuum in the 1950s. It has since been found to manifest itself throughout the electromagnetic spectrum in the continuum as well as lines, on scales from subparsec to megaparsecs.
