Recent Advances in Functional Liver Volumetry: Emphasis on 99mTc‐GSA SPECT/CT Fusion Imaging

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
Functional liver volumetry enables more accurate assessment of the future liver remnant by integrating anatomical and functional information, improving risk stratification before major hepatectomy. Among available techniques, 99mTc‐GSA SPECT/CT fusion imaging enables precise regional functional assessment and more reliable prediction of post ...

Complications of percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage in patients with dilated and nondilated intrahepatic bile ducts.

open access: yes, 2009
Percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage (PTBD) have been described as an effective technique to obtain biliary access. Between January 1996 and December 2006, a total of 419 consecutive patients with endoscopically inaccessible bile ducts underwent ...

Pylorus‐Preserving Gastrectomy for Gastric Cancer: Current Evidence and Future Directions

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
This review aims to outline the current evidence and future directions of PPG, focusing on the feasibility of extending its application beyond its traditional indications. ABSTRACT Pylorus‐preserving gastrectomy (PPG) is a function‐preserving surgery for clinically T1N0M0 (cT1N0M0) early gastric cancer (EGC) located in the middle third of the stomach ...

Congenital biliary atresia in a Beefmaster calf

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Veterinary Pathology, 2016
Biliary atresia is a congenital cholangiopathy characterized by a progressive fibrosis of the bile ducts leading to impaired biliary flow, hepatic failure, icterus and early death.

A Computational Approach for Biomimetic Design of Liver‐On‐A‐Chip

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
A biomimetic liver‐on‐a‐chip with antiparallel perfusion was designed using COMSOL‐guided simulation to replicate hepatic acinus transport. Full‐scale modelling revealed diffusion‐dominated, length‐dependent nutrient gradients and low‐shear conditions.

An Extremely Rare Bile Leakage: Aberrant Bile Duct in Left Triangular Ligament (Appendix Fibrosa Hepatis)

open access: yesCase Reports in Surgery, 2018
Background. The anatomical variability of bile ducts can leave surgeons in very difficult conditions.Ultrasonography, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging (MRCP) and endoscopic imaging methods are used in diagnosis. In addition to conservative

Percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage in patients with postsurgical bile leakage and nondilated intrahepatic bile ducts [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Objective and Background: Bile leakage is a serious postoperative complication and percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage (PTBD) may be an option when endoscopic treatment is not feasible.

Recent advances in the construction of humanized animal models and applications in translational medicine

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
Substantial advances have been achieved in the development of humanized mouse models, which have proven highly valuable in evaluating cancer immunotherapies and elucidating the mechanisms of infectious diseases. There is now a growing shift in research toward larger animal models—such as pigs—that offer greater physiological similarity to humans ...

Carcinoma of the middle bile duct: Is bile duct segmentalresection appropriate?

open access: yesWorld Journal of Gastroenterology, 2009
To compare survival between bile duct segmental resection (BDSR) and pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) for treating distal bile duct cancers.Retrospective analysis was conducted for 45 patients in a BDSR group and for 149 patients in a PD group. The T-stage (P < 0.001), lymph node invasion (P = 0.010) and tumor differentiation (P = 0.005) were significant ...
