Comparison of Uncovered and Covered Biliary SEMS for the Salvage of Obstructed SEMS: A Multicenter Retrospective Propensity Score–Weighted Study

Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, EarlyView.
In patients undergoing secondary SEMS placement after initial uncovered stent failure, fully covered and uncovered SEMSs showed comparable patency, survival, and safety. However, mechanisms of recurrent biliary obstruction differed by stent type, with tumor ingrowth in uncovered SEMSs and sludge or food impaction in fully covered SEMSs.
