Liver Disease Predicts 30‐Day Postoperative Complications in Head and Neck Microvascular Surgery

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
While liver disease is known to affect surgical outcomes, its impact on head and neck microvascular free tissue transfer surgeries remains unexamined. This study uses the NSQIP national database to analyze the relationship between liver disease severity, determined by APRI and MELD‐Na scores, and postoperative complications.

A simplified HPLC-based method for measuring unconjugated bilirubin, bilirubin-monoglucuronide, bilirubin-diglucuronide, and delta-bilirubin in plasma with increased conjugated bilirubin

Scandinavian Journal of Clinical and Laboratory Investigation, 2022
Prolonged icterus is an important and common problem in neonatology and accurate determination of the different bilirubin species, including differentiation between delta-bilirubin and mono- and di-conjugated bilirubin, is useful for diagnostic purposes. However, most bilirubin measurements routinely performed in the clinical laboratory are hampered by

Structure of Bilirubin [PDF]

open access: possibleNature, 1963
CONJUGATED bilirubins (esters) are formed within the liver cells from bilirubin and glucuronic or sulphuric acid. These compounds are very unstable because of the highly reactive central methylene bridge. They are oxidized rapidly by the air and react immediately with diazotized sulphanilic acid.
