A New Birnbaum–Saunders Distribution and Its Mathematical Features Applied to Bimodal Real-World Data from Environment and Medicine

open access: yesMathematics, 2021
In this paper, we propose and derive a Birnbaum–Saunders distribution to model bimodal data. This new distribution is obtained using the product of the standard Birnbaum–Saunders distribution and a polynomial function of the fourth degree.

Microstructure evolution and mechanical properties of bimodal grain sized 301 stainless steel strip induced by reverse phase transformation

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2022
The sub-micron bimodal grain structure of 301 austenitic stainless steel stripe obtained by phase reversion process, and the relationship between grain size distribution and mechanical properties was described in this study.

Evidence for a bimodal distribution in human communication [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 2010
Interacting human activities underlie the patterns of many social, technological, and economic phenomena. Here we present clear empirical evidence from Short Message correspondence that observed human actions are the result of the interplay of three basic ingredients: Poisson initiation of tasks and decision making for task execution in individual ...

Fluctuation of Firm Size in the Long-Run and Bimodal Distribution [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
We study empirically and analytically growth and fluctuation of firm size distribution. An empirical analysis is carried out on a US data set on firm size, with emphasis on one-time distribution as well as growth-rate probability distribution.

Fractal model for bimodal soil-water characteristic curve and its application in pore classification

open access: yesYantu gongcheng xuebao, 2022
Most existing bimodal soil-water characteristic curve (SWCC) models are derived from the empirical models for unimodal SWCC, in which the parameters have no clear physical meanings or value ranges generally.

A Bimodal Lognormal Distribution Model for the Prediction of COVID-19 Deaths

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
The paper presents a phenomenological epidemiological model for the description and prediction of the time trends of COVID-19 deaths worldwide. A bimodal distribution function—defined as the mixture of two lognormal distributions—is assumed to model the ...

A new mechanistic approach for the further development of a population with established size bimodality. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
Usually, the origin of a within-cohort bimodal size distribution is assumed to be caused by initial size differences or by one discrete period of accelerated growth for one part of the population. The aim of this study was to determine if more continuous

ON THE BIMODALITY OF THE EXACT DISTRIBUTION OF THE TSLS ESTIMATOR [PDF]

open access: yesEconometric Theory, 2006
Nelson and Startz (Econometrica, 58, 1990), Maddala and Jong (Econometrica, 60, 1992) and Wolgrom (Econometrica, 69, 2001) have shown that the density of the two-stage least squares estimator may be bimodal in a just identified structural equation. This paper further investigates the conditions under which bimodality may arise in a just/over-identified

Bimodal Age Distribution in Cancer Incidence

open access: yesWorld Journal of Oncology, 2022
Cancer is caused by accumulation of genetic changes which include activation of protooncogenes and loss of tumor suppressor genes. The age-specific incidence of cancer in general increases with advancing age. However, some cancers exhibit a bimodal distribution.
