Longitudinal Evaluation of Otoacoustic Emissions as a Screening Tool for High‐Frequency Hearing Loss in Adolescents

open access: yesOtolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective To investigate the association between distortion product otoacoustic emission (DPOAE) signal‐to‐noise ratios (SNRs) and pure‐tone audiometry (PTA) thresholds in adolescents, both cross‐sectionally at age 18 and longitudinally by evaluating whether DPOAE SNRs at age 13 predict high‐frequency hearing loss (HFHL) at age 18.

The Efficiency of Simultaneous Binaural Ocular Vestibular Evoked Myogenic Potentials: A Comparative Study with Monaural Acoustic Stimulation in Healthy Subjects [PDF]

open access: yesClinical and Experimental Otorhinolaryngology, 2012
ObjectivesTo evaluate the test-retest reliability and convenience of simultaneous binaural acoustic-evoked ocular vestibular evoked myogenic potentials (oVEMP).MethodsThirteen healthy subjects with no history of ear diseases participated in this study ...

Importance of Binaural Hearing [PDF]

open access: yesAudiology and Neurotology, 2015
An essential task for the central auditory pathways is to parse the auditory messages sent by the two cochleae into auditory objects, the segregation and localisation of which constitute an important means of separating target signals from noise and competing sources.

Re-weighting of Sound Localization Cues by Audiovisual Training

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroscience, 2019
Sound localization requires the integration in the brain of auditory spatial cues generated by interactions with the external ears, head and body. Perceptual learning studies have shown that the relative weighting of these cues can change in a context ...

Toward an Individual Binaural Loudness Model for Hearing Aid Fitting and Development

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2021
The individual loudness perception of a patient plays an important role in hearing aid satisfaction and use in daily life. Hearing aid fitting and development might benefit from individualized loudness models (ILMs), enabling better adaptation of the ...

Galvanic vestibular stimulation reveals disruption of ipsilesional brainstem pathways in hemiparetic stroke survivors

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract The spatiotemporal structure of muscle coordination emerges from the collaboration and competition among cortical, brainstem and spinal pathways onto motor neuron pools, each continuously shaped by task demands, limb position and descending tract integrity.

Decoding neural responses to temporal cues for sound localization [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The activity of sensory neural populations carries information about the environment. This may be extracted from neural activity using different strategies.

Localization and binaural detection with monaural and binaural amplification [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1990
As part of a study comparing the effects of monaural and binaural amplification, localization and binaural detection was measured for two groups of listeners with bilateral, sensorineural hearing losses. The subjects in one group have moderate-to-severe, flat losses; the subjects in the other group have moderate-to-severe, high-frequency losses ...
