Patient therapy outcome modeling in cancer organoids is improved by cancer‐associated fibroblasts and organoid assembly convolution

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Patient‐derived organoids (PDOs) from pancreatic, colorectal, and gastric cancers were used to evaluate standard and experimental therapies. Incorporating cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) into organoid cultures improved patient therapy outcome prediction.

Design and Control of Bio-Inspired Joints for Legged Robots Driven by Shape Memory Alloy Wires

open access: yesBiomimetics
Bio-inspired joints play a pivotal role in legged robots, directly determining their motion capabilities and overall system performance. While shape memory alloy (SMA) actuators present superior power density and silent operation compared to conventional

A Novel Approach to Locomotion Learning: Actor-Critic Architecture using Central Pattern Generators and Dynamic Motor Primitives

open access: yesFrontiers in Neurorobotics, 2014
In this article, we propose an architecture of a bio-inspired controller that addresses the problem of learning different locomotion gaits for different robot morphologies. The modelling objective is split into two: baseline motion modelling and dynamics

Decreased cold‐sensing function of the transient receptor potential channel TRPM8 from tailed amphibians

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Despite frogs avoiding low temperatures, examination of four salamander species revealed that none avoided cold and all possessed cold tolerance. Functional analysis of TRPM8, a cold sensor, showed that all salamander TRPM8s had lost their cold sensitivity.

Why human connection is the true metric of research success

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Human‐centred mentorship can be shaped by mentor attributes, actions, intrinsic drive and career ambition. Drawing on reflections across Singapore and France, as well as workshop insights from FEBS‐IUBMB ENABLE 2024, this article shows that human‐centred mentorship creates the conditions for sustainable growth, well‐being and retention in research ...

Numerical Study of the Hydrodynamic Response of Biodegradable Drifting Fish Aggregating Devices in Regular Waves

open access: yesFishes
Fish-aggregating devices play a significant role in tuna purse fisheries. The severe marine environment and the large number of non-biodegradable fish-aggregating devices impact structural safety and cause marine litter.
