Thiocyanate Bio-oxidation Kinetics
Journal of the Environmental Engineering Division, 1981Thiocyanates have been found in most coal conversion and coke plant effluents. Data were developed for the biological degradation rate kinetics of thiocyanate removal, and material balance information was developed for the fate of sulfur and nitrogen resulting from such bio-decomposition of aqueous thiocyanates.

Humic acid promotes arsenopyrite bio-oxidation and arsenic immobilization
Journal of Hazardous Materials, 2020The bio-oxidative dissolution of arsenopyrite, the most severe arsenic contamination source, can be mediated by organic substances, but pertinent studies on this subject are scarce. In this study, the bio-oxidative dissolution of arsenopyrite by Sulfobacillus thermosulfidooxidans and arsenic immobilization were evaluated in the presence of humic acid ...

Bio‐oxidation of linoleic acid via methylmalonyl‐CoA
Lipids, 1969AbstractUnsaturated long‐chain fatty acids are oxidized more rapidly than are saturated fatty acids of similar chain length in intact animals and isolated mitochondria. Gamma‐oxidation of the 3‐dodecenoic acid intermediate in beta‐oxidation of oleate would yield propionate which is metabolized via methylmalonate.14C‐labeled fatty acids were ...

Bio-oxidation of tripropylene glycol under aerobic conditions
Biodegradation, 2007Aerobic biodegradation of tripropylene glycol (PG3) was investigated under the conditions of the OECD screening test 301E and the Continuous Flow Activated Sludge Simulation test (CFAS). A modified two-chamber facility with a denitrification stage was used for the CFAS test.

Non-Hydrolyzable Plastics – An Interdisciplinary Look at Plastic Bio-Oxidation
Trends in Biotechnology, 2021Enzymatic plastic conversion has emerged recently as a potential adjunct and alternative to conventional plastic waste management technology. Publicity over progress in the enzymatic degradation of polyesters largely neglects that the majority of commercial plastics, including polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene and polyvinyl chloride, are still ...

Bio-oxidation of iron using Thiobacillus ferrooxidans
World Journal of Microbiology and Biotechnology, 1997The effects of pH, ferrous and ferric ion concentrations on iron oxidation by Thiobacillus ferrooxidans were examined. The initial temperature and bacterial concentration were maintained at 37°C and 2±1×104cells/ml, respectively. The iron oxidation rate increased with increased initial ferrous iron concentration to 4g/l and thereafter decreased.

Kinetics of bio‐oxidation of metal sulphides
The Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, 1974AbstractThe microbiological oxidation of cadmium, cobalt, nickel and zinc sulphides has been investigated using a pure strain of Thiobacillus ferrooxidans. Kinetic parameters (Vm and K) have been derived regarding the effect of initial total surface area of these substrates.

Role of hydrolyzed rice husk in pyrite bio-oxidation
Geochemistry, 2021Abstract This work seeks to understand the role of hydrolyzed rice husk in pyrite bio-oxidation. Solution parameters during the bio-oxidation process were monitored, and the bio-oxidation residues were characterized by Scanning Electron Microscopy, Raman Spectroscopy, and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy.

Aerobic bio‐oxidation of post‐anaerobic tannery effluents
International Journal of Environmental Studies, 1993Wastewater generated from an industrial estate accommodating chrome as well as vegetable tanneries has a significant pollution potential with COD ranging from as low as 2000 mg/L to as high as 10,000 mg/L. This medium strength wastewater, if segregated from soak liquor and subjected to chromium removal/recovery, can very well be treated anaerobically ...

Bio-oxidation of galena particles by Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans
Particuology, 2008Abstract This paper deals with the bio-oxidation of galena particles (−80 meshes) using Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans and compares it with Fe3+ oxidation. Experimental results show that, at least, 0.00197 mol galena was leached from 100 mL pulp (density of 3.8%) with 39 days’ bio-oxidation, as compared to 0.00329 mol galena by Fe3+ with 9 days ...
