A Bioassay for Mefloquine

The Journal of Parasitology, 1992
A bioassay method that allows for the estimation of serum concentrations of mefloquine is presented. Concentrations obtained by bioassay and high performance liquid chromatography showed a good correlation. This bioassay should be helpful in assessing prophylactic/treatment failures to mefloquine under field conditions.

Multivariate Bioassay, Combination of Bioassays, and Fieller's Theorem

Biometrics, 1986
In this paper alternative methods for estimating the relative potency, its confidence intervals, and testing for proportionality are developed for multivariate bioassays. The test and estimate are based on the smaller characteristic root and the corresponding characteristic vector of a 2 X 2 matrix.

Cytokine Bioassays

2003
Cytokines are important mediators in inflammation, and play a key role in inflammation induced by Gram-negative bacteria. Cytokines are released into serum during different pathological conditions, such as meningococcal disease, and the cytokine levels in serum seem to correlate with fatal outcome of septic shock (1-3).

The Meaning of Bioassay

Biometrics, 1965
The generally accepted practices of biological assay, at least in so far as these are concerned with quantitative estimation, are contained within the concept of dilution assays (Finney [1964]; Jerne and Wood [1949]). In an analytical assay, each test preparation is regarded as a dilution of the standard preparation with a totally inert diluent.

The bioassay of gibberellins

Planta, 1966
A bioassay is described which is dependent upon the fact that gibberellin induced α-amylase release from barley half-seeds is proportional to the logarithm of gibberellin concentration applied. This bioassay has been successfully applied to the estimation of gibberellin-like substances in plant extracts.

Bioassay of hormones

Human Pathology, 1984
Bioassay of hormones has a small but important role in defining the physiologic status of selected patients in whom immunoassay results do not correlate with clinical signs and symptoms. This article reviews three sensitive bioassays for hormones, which are based on 1) stimulation of adenylate cyclase in membrane preparations, 2) cytochemical changes ...

Combining Multivariate Bioassays

Biometrics, 1986
Linear multivariate theory is applied to the problem of combining several multivariate bioassays. Results are an asymptotic test of the hypothesis of a common log relative potency; the maximum likelihood estimator of the common log relative potency; and an exact and asymptotic confidence interval estimator for log relative potency.
