Renewable feedstocks for biobutanol production by fermentation
This paper reports a study of potential feedstock for butanol production via the biotechnological route. Several waste(water) streams rich in sugars and lignocellulosic biomass were studied: cheese-whey, leftovers of high sugar-content beverages, food lost or wasted, agriculture residues.

We studied the dehydration of inulin into 5‐HMF in Deep Eutectic Solvents, promoted by task specific ionic liquids, under mild conditions. The reaction occurred in a biphasic system, continuously extracting 5‐HMF. Catalyst and solvents could be reused and we also elucidated which solvent properties are most conducive to the best yields.
