Exploring protandry and pupal size selection for Aedes albopictus sex separation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Background: We explored the possibility to improve male/female separation (sexing) in Aedes albopictus by selection of two strains, one toward increasing sex dimorphism and another toward increasing protandry.

A systematic review on research trends and commercialised entomopathogenic nematodes: A global perspective

open access: yesAgricultural and Forest Entomology, EarlyView.
Out of 136 identified EPNs, only 18 (8 Steinernema and 6 Heterorhabditis) are commercialised globally, highlighting a major gap between discovery and application. High production costs and inconsistent field efficacy are the leading obstacles to the widespread commercialisation of EPN‐based biocontrol products.

Biocidal Agents Used for Disinfection Can Enhance Antibiotic Resistance in Gram-Negative Species

open access: yesAntibiotics, 2018
Biocidal agents used for disinfection are usually not suspected to enhance cross-resistance to antibiotics. The aim of this review was therefore to evaluate the effect of 13 biocidal agents at sublethal concentrations on antibiotic resistance in Gram ...

Exposures in Indoor Air Affecting Health

open access: yesAllergy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Indoor air quality (IAQ) is influenced by a wide range of chemical, biological and physical agents that can negatively impact physical, immunological and mental health. Adverse health effects depend on the type and concentration of pollutants, duration of exposure, and individual susceptibility.

A COMPARATIVE STUDY ON THE CONCENTRATIONS OF TCMTB BASED FUNGICIDES IN LEATHER AND THEIR EFFECT ON MOULD RESISTANCE [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of the University of Oradea: Fascicle of Textiles, Leatherwork, 2020
TCMTB (2-(thiocyanomethylthio)-benzothiazole), as a broad spectrum antifungal agent, has found a wide spread usage in processing of pickled, wet-blue and crust leathers and became one of the most used fungicides in leather although it suffered some ...

Increased Usage of Antiseptics Is Associated with Reduced Susceptibility in Clinical Isolates of Staphylococcus aureus [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Hospital-acquired infection is a major cause of morbidity and mortality, and regimes to prevent infection are crucial in infection control. These include the decolonization of vulnerable patients with methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA ...

Prioritising research on endocrine disruption in the marine environment: a global perspective

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT A healthy ocean is a crucial life support system that regulates the global climate, is a source of oxygen and supports major economic activities. A vast and understudied biodiversity from micro‐ to macro‐organisms is integral to ocean health.

Biofilm Formation in Dairy: A Food Safety Concern—Recent progress in antibiofilm strategies in the dairy industry

open access: yesJournal of Dairy Science
: Biofilm formation allows microorganisms including bacteria to persist on abiotic or biotic surfaces, to resist treatments with biocides (disinfectants and antibiotics), and to evade the immune response in animal hosts much more than they do in the ...
