Biofloc-Based Enhanced Survival of Litopenaeus vannamei Upon AHPND-Causing Vibrio parahaemolyticus Challenge Is Partially Mediated by Reduced Expression of Its Virulence Genes

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2020
The biofloc system is a relatively new aquaculture technology that offers practical solution to maintain culture water quality by recycling nutrients and improves the health status and resistance of shrimps against microbial infection, yet the mode of ...

The Optimization of Dietary Protein Level and Carbon Sources on Biofloc Nutritive Values, Bacterial Abundance, and Growth Performances of Whiteleg Shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) Juveniles

open access: yesLife, 2022
A biofloc technology-based 75-day indoor growth trial in an 80 L glass aquaria was conducted to evaluate the effects of two different carbon sources (sugarcane bagasse, SB, and wheat flour, WF) on the biofloc composition, bacterial abundance, and growth ...

The Effect of Different C:n and C:p Ratio of Media on the Content of Polyhydroxybutyrate in Biofloc Inoculated with Bacterium Bacillus Cereus [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Biofloc technology has added values in aquaculture management, both in water quality management and feeding management. As an optional feed, biofloc is capable to enhance growth due to high protein content.

First report: Amazon River Prawn reared in biofloc technology

open access: yesRevista de Ciências Agroveterinárias, 2020
The objective of this work was to evaluate the use of biofloc technology to reared Amazon River prawn (Macrobrachium amazonicum). One hundred Amazon River prawn juveniles were divided into two experimental units (250 L), 50 animals per each. Prawns were fed two times per day, with 3% of the prawn biomass.

Bacterial Communities Associated With Penaeus vannamei Boone, 1931 Surface and Its Rearing Water in Biofloc Culture System

open access: yesAsian Fisheries Science, 2021
The biofloc system is an ecologically sustainable shrimp culture system. The conglomerates of beneficial bacteria, algae and protozoa in pond water serve as a water quality management system and as a feed additive to the shrimps.

Hydrolysed Feather Meal Inclusion in Low Fishmeal Diets for Whiteleg Shrimp (Penaeus vannamei)

open access: yesAquaculture Nutrition, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
The global transition toward low‐fishmeal formulations has intensified the search for sustainable and digestible protein alternatives in shrimp aquaculture. Enzymatically hydrolysed feather meal (HFM) represents a promising high‐protein ingredient with enhanced digestibility and bioactive potential.

Effect of Roseovarius litoreus Supplementation on Growth Performance, Antioxidant Capacity, and Gut Bacterial Community of Pacific White Shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei)

open access: yesAquaculture Research, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Rhodobacteraceae strains are known to play multiple beneficial roles in shrimp aquaculture. Roseovarius litoreus (RL), a member of this family, has demonstrated probiotic effects in crabs. To explore its potential role in shrimp, this study evaluated the effects of RL on the growth performance, antioxidation, and gut bacterial community of the ...
