Optimization of Growth Performance of Nile Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) in Biofloc Farming: Evaluating Growth Performance and System Stability Under Reduced Feeding Regimes

open access: yesAquaculture Research, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
This study assessed the effect of different feeding levels on the growth performance of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) as well as on the stability of the biofloc system over a 9‐week experimental period. Three feeding levels were tested: BFT100 (100% of a complete ration), BFT75 (75% of a complete ration), and BFT50 (50% of a complete ration).

Glucose‐Maltodextrin as Synergistic Carbon Sources Enhance Biofloc Technology: Stabilizing Water Quality, Enriching Microbial Diversity, and Boosting Production in Cherax quadricarinatus Aquaculture

open access: yesAquaculture Research, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Global aquaculture expansion necessitates sustainable technologies like biofloc technology (BFT), and the type of carbon source exerts a crucial impact on the functionality of biofloc systems. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of single carbon sources (glucose [G] and maltodextrin [M]) and their 1:1 mixture (GM) on water quality, microbial ...

The prospects of biofloc technology (BFT) for sustainable aquaculture development

open access: yesScientific African, 2021
As capture fishery sector continues to decline, aquaculture industry must be accelerated to bridge the fish supply gap especially in the developing countries. However, in most developing countries, aquaculture sector is characterized by low productivity due to inefficient technologies, hence the need for innovative aqua-technologies that can stimulate ...

Integrated Strategies for Broodstock Management and Seed Production to Mitigate Climate and Water‐Quality Challenges: A Critical and Meta‐Analysis Review

open access: yesAquaculture, Fish and Fisheries, Volume 5, Issue 6, December 2025.
ABSTRACT Climate change significantly impacts aquaculture by altering key water‐quality parameters such as temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, ammonia, and turbidity—factors essential for effective brood fish management and seed production. This review critically examines how these environmental changes affect broodstock physiology, spawning performance,
