Effects of carbon sources on the culture of giant river prawn in biofloc system during nursery phase

open access: yesAquaculture Reports, 2021
A six-week nursery culture of giant river prawn Macrobrachium rosenbergii was conducted in a zero-water exchange biofloc technology (BFT) system. Water quality, microorganisms, proximate composition and growth performance of prawn were compared by using ...

Glucose‐Maltodextrin as Synergistic Carbon Sources Enhance Biofloc Technology: Stabilizing Water Quality, Enriching Microbial Diversity, and Boosting Production in Cherax quadricarinatus Aquaculture

open access: yesAquaculture Research, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Global aquaculture expansion necessitates sustainable technologies like biofloc technology (BFT), and the type of carbon source exerts a crucial impact on the functionality of biofloc systems. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of single carbon sources (glucose [G] and maltodextrin [M]) and their 1:1 mixture (GM) on water quality, microbial ...

Integrated Strategies for Broodstock Management and Seed Production to Mitigate Climate and Water‐Quality Challenges: A Critical and Meta‐Analysis Review

open access: yesAquaculture, Fish and Fisheries, Volume 5, Issue 6, December 2025.
ABSTRACT Climate change significantly impacts aquaculture by altering key water‐quality parameters such as temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, ammonia, and turbidity—factors essential for effective brood fish management and seed production. This review critically examines how these environmental changes affect broodstock physiology, spawning performance,

Effects of Immediate Oxygen Supplementation (Sodium Carbonate and Hydrogen Peroxide) on Water Quality Parameters, Behavioural Responses and Survival of Puntius sophore Fingerlings

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 11, Issue 6, November 2025.
•The graphical abstract shows that bio‐ox at 1 g/70 L effectively increases dissolved oxygen, maintains calm fish behaviour and improves survival rates. •Higher oxygen‐supplementing dosages further increase pH and DO but trigger stress responses such as hyperactivity and convulsions, reducing survival.
