The role of bacteria in pine wilt disease: insights from microbiome analysis. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Pine Wilt Disease (PWD) has a significant impact on Eurasia pine forests. The microbiome of the nematode (the primary cause of the disease), its insect vector, and the host tree may be relevant for the disease mechanism.

Inconsistent effects of P enrichment and predator presence on food‐web dynamics in a bromeliad system

open access: yesOikos, EarlyView.
Food webs consist of trophic interactions of variable strength. However, it remains challenging to predict how changes in environmental conditions, such as nutrient enrichment, can affect these interactions. In this paper, we propose to integrate food web theory with ecological stoichiometry, which predicts how elemental ratios affect trophic ...

Possible role of glutamine synthetase in the NO signaling response in root nodules by contributing to the antioxidant defenses

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2013
Nitric oxide (NO) is emerging as an important regulatory player in the Rhizobium-legume symbiosis. The occurrence of NO during several steps of the symbiotic interaction suggests an important, but yet unknown, signaling role of this molecule for root ...

N88S seipin-related seipinopathy is a lipidopathy associated with loss of iron homeostasis

open access: yesCell Communication and Signaling
Background Seipin is a protein encoded by the BSCL2 gene in humans and SEI1 gene in yeast, forming an Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER)-bound homo-oligomer. This oligomer is crucial in targeting ER-lipid droplet (LD) contact sites, facilitating the delivery of ...

Digitising biological collections to advance National Species Inventories: A case study from the flora of Chile

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
In response to Chile's public policy to establish a national biodiversity inventory and monitoring system, we launched the HerbarioDigital.cl portal. We have digitised over 120,000 specimens representing more than 3,900 species from two Chilean herbaria, integrating them through a curated local taxonomic index.
