Efficient Biologically-based Pattern-recognizing Networks
Neural Networks, 1996A biologiclly-motivated classifying neural network which is based on the feature extraction scheme found in the visual cortex is suggested. A special process is proposed for grading and automatically selecting the "best" features for specific recognition tasks.

Some Physical Aspects of Relative Biological Efficiency
The British Journal of Radiology, 1957After surveying the broad nature of the problem of relative biological efficiency, an account is given of methods which have been used to characterise the quality of ionizing radiations. These former methods have ignored the phenomenon of secondary or δ-track formation and reference is made to treatments which take this factor into account. The concept

Studies on the luminescence efficiency of biological compound solutions
Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1955Abstract All biological compound solutions tested under high-energy gamma bombardment quenched the water luminescence by no more than a factor of two. The values for relative luminescence of the 10−2 molar solutions ranged from 94% for glycine to 56% for uric acid.

Biological decomposition efficiency in different woodland soils
Oecologia, 1983The decomposition (meaning disappearance) of different leaf types and artificial leaves made from cellulose hydrate foil was studied in three forests - an alluvial forest (Ulmetum), a beech forest on limestone soil (Melico-Fagetum), and a spruce forest in soil overlying limestone bedrock.Fine, medium, and coarse mesh litter bags of special design were ...

Efficient parallel algorithms for processing biological sequences
International Journal of Computer Applications in Technology, 2004Processing of biological sequences is a compute-intensive problem. The amount of data available in biology is so enormous that sequential techniques take a very long time to process them. In this paper, we present some parallel algorithms for biological data processing.

The efficient numerical solution of biological simulation problems
Computer Programs in Biomedicine, 1979A subroutine called DESOL for the numerical solution of ordinary differential equations of the type arising in biological simulation problems is described. DESOL is about as efficient as current high quality integrators, but because of its compactness it can be easily used on small computers.
