The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Role of Nitric Oxide in Biological Systems: A Systematic Review

open access: yesJournal of Mazandaran University of Medical Sciences, 2017
Nitric oxide (NO) is known as an unstable signaling molecule that can be produced by three different NO synthase (NOS) isoforms. It plays a vital role in a wide range of physiological processes in the body.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Statistical scaling laws for competing biological species [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Universality classes are defined for an idealized nonlinear system that governs the competition between biological species. The decay to asymptotic steady state is examined for supercritical Hopf bifurcation by considering a phenomenological approach ...

Xylose induces cellulase production in Thermoascus aurantiacus

open access: yesBiotechnology for Biofuels, 2017
Background Lignocellulosic biomass is an important resource for renewable production of biofuels and bioproducts. Enzymes that deconstruct this biomass are critical for the viability of biomass-based biofuel production processes.

Thermodynamic calculations in biological systems

open access: yesBiophysical Chemistry, 2005
The ability to compute intra- and inter-molecular interactions provides the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of previously intractable problems in biochemistry and biophysics. This review presents three examples in which molecular dynamics calculations were used to gain insight into the atomic detail underlying important experimental ...

Modelling Coordination in Biological Systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We present an application of the Reo coordination paradigm to provide a compositional formal model for describing and reasoning about the behaviour of biological systems, such as regulatory gene networks. Reo governs the interaction and flow of data between components by allowing the construction of connector circuits which have a precise formal ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Determine measurement set for parameter estimation in biological systems modeling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Parameter estimation is challenging for biological systems modelling since the model is normally of high dimension, the measurement data are sparse and noisy, and the cost of experiments is high. Accurate recovery of parameters depend on the quantity and

Mathematical and computational modeling of biosystems at different levels of organization

open access: yesВавиловский журнал генетики и селекции
Modern biology increasingly relies on mathematical and computational modeling to describe complex hierarchically organized biological systems. This review considers models that cover the main levels of biological organization, from the molecular-genetic ...
