Noise-stimulated active transport in biological cell membranes

Physics Letters A, 1994
Abstract We show that existing experimental data on active transport of ions in living biological cells can be interpreted in terms of the transfer of energy from the stochastic field (fluctuations of membrane potential), and propose a method of further experimental verification of this interpretation.

The system for activating the transport of ions in biological structures using a magnetic field [PDF]

open access: possible2019 19th International Symposium on Electromagnetic Fields in Mechatronics, Electrical and Electronic Engineering (ISEF), 2019
This paper presents the biological aspect of the interaction of magnetic fields on living organisms, the types of signals used for therapy and physical rehabilitation, and the method of their preparation. The block diagram of the controller with the touch panel is presented and its functions are discussed.

Post-effects of radioactive decay in ligands on biologically active transport platforms

Radiation Physics and Chemistry, 2019
Abstract The electron capture consequences in the 57Co DOTA complex compound and processes of radiation-induced defect formation in DOTA under the effect of recoil nuclei produced after the α-decay of 241Am were studied using high performance liquid radiochromatography and emission Mossbauer spectroscopy. The experiments conducted have shown that the

The mutual binding exclusion mechanism in active transport across biological membranes

Cell Biophysics, 1987
The coupling mechanism of sarcoplasmic reticulum ATPase is based on the reciprocal influence of calcium binding and phosphorylation domains. Cooperative calcium binding activates the enzyme, permitting utilization of ATP by transfer of its terminal phosphate to the enzyme.

Transport of biologically active interferon-gamma across human skin in vitro.

Pharmaceutical research, 1995
Several studies have suggested epidermal uptake of cytokines, such as interferons, can be facilitated using topical liposomal formulations. We have evaluated the in vitro transport of biologically active recombinant human interferon-gamma (rhIFN-gamma) into and through split-thickness human skin to assess this possibility.Skin samples were exposed to ...

Experimental evidence and biological significance of active transport

1961
All living organisms as well as the individual cells of which they are composed are faced by two problems which are obviously antagonistic: They must retain their integrity, constraining their component molecules within a definite space, but, at the same time, require a continuous or periodic exchange of molecules with their surroundings. Off-hand, the

Saponins in Calendula officinalis L. – Structure, Biosynthesis, Transport and Biological Activity

Phytochemistry Reviews, 2005
Trends in research on Calendula officinalis L. saponins performed in Department of Plant Biochemistry at Warsaw University are reviewed. Calendula officinalis, a well known medicinal plant, contains significant amounts of oleanane saponins, which form two distinct series of related compounds, called “glucosides” and “glucuronides” according to the ...

Immobilization of active facilitated glucose transporters (GLUT-1) in supported biological membranes

Applied Biochemistry and Biotechnology, 1997
Membrane fragments or membrane proteins within a lipid mixture were immobilized over metal electrodes. This procedure has been developed to study biological membranes without interference from cell machinery. To obtain a smooth hydrophilic biomembrane support and a mode of binding of the membrane, either a crosslinked gel or an aromatic polyamine ...

Mathematical theory of biological periodicities II. Effect of active transport

The Bulletin of Mathematical Biophysics, 1969
A previous study (Bull. Math. Biophysics,30, 735–749) is generalized to the case of active transport, which acts together in general with ordinary diffusion. The basic results obtained are the same except for an additional important conclusion. In principle it is possible to obtain sustained oscillations even when the secretions of the different glands

Active Ionic Transport across Biological Membranes: Possible Role of Electrons and Protons

Nature, 1970
THE conversion of metabolic energy into useful work is a very efficient process in biological cells. The energy in ATP is transformed into mechanical, electrical and osmotic work at efficiencies which have been calculated to approach 100 per cent for acid secretion in the stomach1, active Na+ transport in frog skin2 and sartorius muscle contraction3 ...
