Biology for the Elementary Teacher

open access: yesThe American Biology Teacher, 1962
There has long been a feeling on the part of the science education personnel in the Department of Teacher Education at Michigan State University that there should be a course designed to meet the needs of elementary teachers for content in the science areas, since it is only after these needs have been met that effective methodology can be discussed ...

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.

Biology Teachers and Peace

open access: yesThe American Biology Teacher, 1981
Eleven years ago (1970) ABTpublished an article of mine entitled "Is There a Doctor on the Planet?" I said then that "humanity, if the whole of it were viewed as an individual, would be diagnosed insane by the criteria psychologists use. Weapons that would necessarily be both suicidal and homicidal are more than possessed; they are aimed and ready to ...

DNA methylation and expression of MAPRE3 affect overall survival of early‐stage non‐small cell lung cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Both cg12821679MAPRE3 methylation and MAPRE3 expression are significantly associated with overall survival (OS) of non‐small cell lung cancer. Meanwhile, MAPRE3 expression significantly modified the effect of smoking cessation on OS. Smoking cessation benefits OS merely for patients with high MAPRE3 expression.

Liquid biopsy‐based diagnostic evaluation of hypermethylated CpG sites for ovarian cancer diagnosis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This schematic outlines the workflow from biomarker identification to duplex MethyLight assay validation for epithelial ovarian cancer diagnosis using cfDNA‐based liquid biopsy. Initial screening of hypermethylated CpG candidates (cg02957270, cg10061138 cg00480298, COL2A1) was performed in tissue using ARMS‐PCR, COBRA, qPCR and image analysis. Selected
