Harnessing Photo‐Energy Conversion in Nanomaterials for Precision Theranostics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Harnessing photo‐energy conversion in nanomaterials enables precision theranostics through light‐driven mechanisms such as photoluminescence, photothermal, photoelectric, photoacoustic, photo‐triggered surface‐enhanced Raman scattering (SERS), and photodynamic processes. This review explores six fundamental principles of photo‐energy conversion, recent

Multiplexed Bio‐detection on an Interferometric Optical Waveguide Assembly

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Multiplexed remote bio‐detection is demonstrated through an image conduit composed of 3012 individual cores and coated with interferometric layers. The proof of concept of biodetection is performed through the kinetic monitoring of two complementary DNA strands hybridization paving the way for applications in multiplex in situ biosensing, and ...

Urinary Biomarkers in Tumors: An Overview [PDF]

open access: possible, 2021
Recent reports suggest that urine is a useful noninvasive tool for the identification of urogenital tumors, including bladder, prostate, kidney, and other nonurological cancers. As a liquid biopsy, urine represents an important source for the improvement of new promising biomarkers, a suitable tool to identify indolent cancer and avoid overtreatment ...

Biomarkers of neuroendocrine tumors

Annales de biologie clinique, 2016
Neuroendocrine tumors (NET) are rare heterogenous tumors which prevalence is increasing. Their features vary by anatomical location, functionality and hormonal production. Their management needs a multidisciplinary approach. Functional tumors develop characteristic clinical syndromes in contrast to non-functional tumors that are diagnosed fortuitously ...

Biomarkers in airway tumors

International Journal of Oncology, 1996
Despite advances and improvements in diagnosis and treatment of upper aerodigestive tumors including head and neck and lung cancers, the overall survival rate of these patients remains poor. Prevention, early diagnosis, and novel therapy are under active investigation to improve the outcome of the diseases.

MRI biomarkers in osseous tumors

Journal of Magnetic Resonance Imaging, 2019
Although radiography continues to play a critical role in osseous tumor assessment, there have been remarkable advances in cross‐sectional imaging. MRI has taken a lead in this assessment due to high tissue contrast and spatial resolution, which are well suited for bone lesion assessment.

MicroRNAs as Biomarkers in Pituitary Tumors

Neurosurgery, 2014
The use of extracellular microRNAs (miRNAs) as circulating biomarkers is currently leading to relevant advances in the diagnosis and assessment of prognosis of several diseases. Specific miRNAs have also been shown to play a role in the pathophysiology of many neoplastic and non-neoplastic diseases.

Survivin: A promising tumor biomarker

Cancer Letters, 2007
Survivin is a 16.5 kDa protein overexpressed in almost all malignancies but rarely detected in normal differentiated adult tissues. Functionally, survivin has been shown to inhibit apoptosis, promote cell proliferation and enhance angiogenesis. Consistent with its role in these processes, survivin has been shown to play a key role in cancer progression.
