Biomarkers of chondrosarcoma [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Pathology, 2018
Clinical outcome prediction is major concern to patients with cancer. Various molecular markers in various carcinomas have been identified in the past few decades. However, accurate predictors in chondrosarcoma have not been developed, even though chondrosarcoma is the second most common primary bone tumour.

Cell‐free and extracellular vesicle microRNAs with clinical utility for solid tumors

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cell‐free microRNAs (cfmiRs) are small‐RNA circulating molecules detectable in almost all body biofluids. Innovative technologies have improved the application of cfmiRs to oncology, with a focus on clinical needs for different solid tumors, but with emphasis on diagnosis, prognosis, cancer recurrence, as well as treatment monitoring.

Exploiting a new strategy to induce immunogenic cell death to improve dendritic cell-based vaccines for lymphoma immunotherapy

open access: yesOncoImmunology, 2017
Although promising, the clinical benefit provided by dendritic cell (DC)-based vaccines is still limited and the choice of the optimal antigen formulation is still an unresolved issue.

Extracellular vesicles from subjects with COPD modulate cancer initiating cells phenotype through HIF-1α shuttling

open access: yesCell Death and Disease, 2023
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a risk factor for lung cancer development. COPD induces activation of hypoxia-induced signaling, causing remodeling of surrounding microenvironmental cells also modulating the release and cargo of their ...

Choroidal biomarkers

open access: yesIndian Journal of Ophthalmology, 2018
A structurally and functionally intact choroid tissue is vitally important for the retina function. Although central retinal artery is responsible to supply the inner retina, choroidal vein network is responsible for the remaining one-third of the external part. Abnormal choroidal blood flow leads to photoreceptor dysfunction and photoreceptor death in

KRAS and GNAS mutations in cell‐free DNA and in circulating epithelial cells in patients with intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms—an observational pilot study

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that KRAS and GNAS mutations are more prevalent in patients with resected intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms (IPMN) compared to those under clinical surveillance. GNAS mutations significantly differ between the two patient cohorts, indicating that their absence may serve as a potential biomarker to support conservative ...

The Future will be Different than Today: Model Evaluation Considerations when Developing Translational Clinical Biomarker [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
Finding translational biomarkers stands center stage of the future of personalized medicine in healthcare. We observed notable challenges in identifying robust biomarkers as some with great performance in one scenario often fail to perform well in new trials (e.g. different population, indications). With rapid development in the clinical trial world (e.

On‐treatment dynamics of circulating extracellular vesicles in the first‐line setting of patients with advanced non‐small cell lung cancer: the LEXOVE prospective study

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The LEXOVE prospective study evaluated plasma cell‐free extracellular vesicle (cfEV) dynamics using Bradford assay and dynamic light scattering in metastatic non‐small cell lung cancer patients undergoing first‐line treatments, correlating a ∆cfEV < 20% with improved median progression‐free survival in responders versus non‐responders.

The minor collagens in articular cartilage

open access: yesProtein & Cell, 2017
Articular cartilage is a connective tissue consisting of a specialized extracellular matrix (ECM) that dominates the bulk of its wet and dry weight. Type II collagen and aggrecan are the main ECM proteins in cartilage.
