Saccharification of Spirulina platensis biomass using free and immobilized amylolytic enzymes

Bioresource Technology, 2018
We aimed to use physical methods of microalgal biomass rupture to study saccharification strategies using free and immobilized amylolytic enzymes. The biomass of Spirulina platensis, which consists of 50-60% carbohydrates, was exposed to physical cell rupture treatments, with better results obtained using freeze/thaw cycles following by gelatinization.

Biomass conversion to butanediol by simultaneous saccharification and fermentation

Trends in Biotechnology, 1985
Abstract The efficient biological conversion of all the available sugars in biomass residues to fuels and chemicals is crucial to the efficiency of any process intended to compete economically with petrochemical products. Both hemicellulose- and cellulose-derived carbohydrates from wood and agricultural wastes can be converted to 2,3-butanediol by ...

Saccharification of tomato pomace for the production of biomass

Bioresource Technology, 1997
Abstract Several cellulase titers were used to saccharify suspensions of tomato pomace in 300 ml shake-flasks. The sacharification of the substrate produced glucose at different initial rates from 1.8 g of reducing sugar kg−1 per enzyme unit (at 10 g of tomato pomace kg−1) to 36.1 g of reducing sugar kg−1 per enzyme unit (at 160 g of tomato pomace kg−

Torrefaction as a potential pretreatment for biomass saccharification

2019
Recently the use of lignocellulosic feedstock as source of fermentable sugars has been extensively investigated in order to develop biorefinery processes to produce liquid biofuels and bio-commodities. In particular, second generation biofuels have been proposed as the result of the conversion of sugars from residual biomass such as agriculture and ...
